Cassandra Shelton, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
*I currently offer virtual therapy with daytime availability. Please note that I require at least 48 hours before your appointment to confirm insurance coverage.* Sometimes people reach a point where they realize they do not have to keep struggling on their own. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with adults navigating ADHD, autism, and other neurodivergent experiences, along with anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, burnout, and life transitions. Therapy can also be helpful for adults who are beginning to wonder whether ADHD or autism may have gone unrecognized earlier in life. This often includes individuals who have built successful careers or lives but feel overwhelmed by the effort it takes to keep everything together. My goal is to help clients better understand themselves and develop coping skills that make daily life more manageable. My interest in becoming a therapist grew out of my own experience being a client, and that perspective continues to shape how I work today. I focus on being genuine, approachable, and someone clients can talk to openly without feeling judged. I also take an ADHD-affirming approach and help clients learn how to work with their brain rather than against it. I work with adults experiencing ADHD, autism, executive functioning challenges, emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety, and burnout.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is collaborative and tailored to you. I do not believe there is one approach that works for everyone, so I take time to understand how you think, what you are experiencing, and what changes you want to make. As a neurodivergent therapist, I understand how overwhelming daily life can sometimes feel. My goal is to help clients better understand themselves while building coping skills that support their lives. Humor also has a place in therapy when it fits, because meaningful work does not always have to feel heavy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We begin by talking about what is going on in your life and what brought you to therapy. From there we work together to develop coping skills, increase self understanding, and find ways to make daily life feel more manageable. I will also explain how therapy works so you know what to expect moving forward. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling a little more comfortable and a little less alone in what you are dealing with.
