Catherine McCarthy, LCSW

Psychotherapist
8 Delview Terrace Extension, Suite 6, Delhi, NY
I’m a white cisgender woman who’s been working as a therapist for the past eight years. I’m also a clinical supervisor, a trainer of emerging psychotherapists, and a parent. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service. Before becoming a therapist, I spent a decade with storytelling nonprofit The Moth, where I directed stories for the Mainstage and cofounded The Moth’s Education Program, which helps young people and educators connect to one another and to themselves through the telling of personal stories. That experience has greatly shaped my approach to mental health; I aim to help you make meaning of your past experiences and to let go of old stories that no longer serve you. I take a strengths-based narrative approach to therapy, affirming your natural ability to reflect on your past experiences so you can move forward with new insight and agency. I also believe that sometimes insight alone is not enough for true change to occur, so I draw upon an experiential, somatic approach—incorporating interventions from Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and Internal Family Systems (IFS)—to help you gain deeper awareness of your emotions and intuition.
