Catherine Proa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who obtained her Master’s of Social Work from the University of Maryland in 1996. She has been working with children, adults, families, and couples for the past 24 years.
Catherine has extensive experience working with various therapeutic methodologies to provide individualized approaches for her clients. She also specializes in grief and bereavement issues and has a true understanding of loss.
In 2017, Catherine became certified in Compassionate Bereavement Care through the MISS Foundation and The Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Family Trust, Sedona, AZ. Catherine understands that nobody wants to deal with the intense pain of loss but it needs to be done to move forward with greater insight and understanding of this life. She wishes to be a supporting presence to assist her clientele with embracing loss and gaining acceptance.
Catherine also has experience in working with the elder population and their caregivers. She focuses on assessment, planning for future needs and community resources. As we age, we must deal with Medicare, fixed incomes, health issues and limited supports. Few of us are prepared for the changes in aging because we bumble along ignoring the inevitable due to our own fear of the unknown.
Approach
Catherine’s mission with her Argo Counseling and Wellness is to provide the community a resource for helping people find the strength to heal their mental, physical and spiritual well-being so they can ultimately find their happiness. She provides a safe comfortable environment to facilitate the therapeutic process through education, individualized modalities to address mental disorders and symptoms with nurturing and guided support.

Catherine chose to go in the field of social work after completing her first bachelors degree in Asian Studies and History from Mary Baldwin College in 1991. Her interest in Asian culture took her around the world to live in Taiwan and Hong Kong. She enjoyed quite a bit of travel in her 20’s. Catherine found that no matter where she travelled, she could always relate to those around her despite the language barrier. She has found that food, music and laughter are the one of the best languages in which to relate to others.
