Getting to know Catherine Speckmann

Hi there, I'm Catherine! My name is Catherine, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Psychotherapist with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I have a solid background working with clients experiencing Substance Use Disorders, Mood Disorders, Anxiety, and Grief Issues. I accept clients at all stages of the lifespan from age 12 and up. My approach My approach is client-centered and focused on empowerment. I use a strength-based philosophy and believe the therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Therapies to improve coping strategies. I meet clients where they are and assist them in getting to where they want to be. My focus I work with clients over age 12 and have experience treating Addictions, ADHD, Adjustment Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Behavior Disorders, Borderline Personality Disorders, Dual Diagnosis, Grief and Loss, LGBTQIA+ Populations, Mood Disorders, Self-harm, Trauma, and PTSD. My communication style It’s important for people to feel safe when they work with me. If clients don’t feel safe in our therapeutic relationship, psychotherapy won’t be successful. I listen carefully to what is said. Clients identify challenges, and we work together to develop strategies that empower them. Therapy is an interactive process. My journey to mental healthcare I realized early on that I was a great listener who truly cared about people. It didn’t take long to see that my empathy and communication skills were a great fit for this career. My goals for you During the first session, I conduct a thorough assessment to establish a therapeutic relationship and set agreed-upon treatment goals. Therapy is a process, and I like us to set long-term goals. Along the way, we develop short-term goals to measure progress and achieve success toward the bigger picture.
