Getting to know Cathey Law

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a unique background that bridges more than 16 years in Human Resources leadership with my clinical training in counseling. My earlier career allowed me to support people through workplace stress, burnout, and identity challenges, but after a health scare and a period of reflection, I made the decision to pivot into mental health counseling full time. That journey—from corporate boardrooms to private practice—deepened my understanding of the emotional, physical, and spiritual toll that stress, grief, and unresolved trauma can take on a person’s life. In my counseling practice, I specialize in helping adults navigate depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and major life transitions. I work with young adults facing identity and career shifts, midlife clients questioning their next chapter, and older adults or retirees redefining purpose in their golden years. My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. I integrate Brainspotting to release deeply stored trauma, CBT to challenge unhelpful thought patterns, ACT to align clients with their values, and somatic and Gestalt practices to reconnect the mind and body. I believe therapy is not about quick fixes but about creating a safe and supportive space where clients can process, heal, and grow. My goal is to help individuals move beyond feeling bound by depression, anxiety, or the weight of loss, and instead move toward clarity, resilience, and a more grounded and authentic life. At the heart of my work is a simple belief: it is never too late to reinvent yourself, reclaim your voice, and create a life that reflects your true self. I am not a medication prescriber.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients can expect a therapy space that feels safe, calm, and nonjudgmental. My style is warm, compassionate, and collaborative—I listen closely, reflect what I hear, and gently challenge patterns that may be keeping you stuck. I tailor each session to your unique needs, drawing from Brainspotting, CBT, ACT, and somatic practices to help you process emotions, gain clarity, and build resilience. You won’t find quick fixes here, but you will find support, practical tools, and a partner in your journey toward healing and growth.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is collaborative and flexible, shaped by each client’s needs and goals. In our first sessions, I take time to listen to your story, explore what brought you to therapy, and work with you to identify what you hope to change or achieve. For some, that may mean easing anxiety or depression that has felt overwhelming; for others, it’s navigating grief, trauma, or the uncertainty of a life transition. I work with adults of all ages, including young adults finding their footing, as well as those in midlife or entering the golden years. Sessions often include a balance of open conversation, practical strategies, and mind-body approaches like Brainspotting or mindfulness to help release stress and build resilience. You can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental space where we check in on progress, adjust our approach as needed, and celebrate the small steps that lead to lasting change.
