Chanelle Haywood, LMFT

Chanelle Haywood, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in California, working with adults and couples who are navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, stress, and emotional overwhelm. My work is grounded in a warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive approach, with an emphasis on helping clients feel safe, understood, and supported from the very first session. I believe therapy should feel human, thoughtful, and intentional. Rather than focusing on quick solutions or surface-level change, I help clients explore underlying patterns, emotional experiences, and relational dynamics that contribute to their current concerns. My role is to support clients in gaining clarity, building insight, and developing tools that align with their values and goals. I draw from evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches and tailor therapy to each individual or couple. I value curiosity, honesty, and compassion in the therapeutic process and strive to create a space where clients can show up as they are—without pressure to perform, explain, or minimize their experiences. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I work alongside clients to help them move toward greater self-awareness, emotional balance, and meaningful change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients often describe me as calm, attentive, and easy to talk to. I take time to build a strong therapeutic relationship and prioritize creating an environment where clients feel respected, heard, and not judged. Sessions are paced intentionally, allowing space for reflection while also gently encouraging growth and insight. I balance empathy and validation with thoughtful questions, feedback, and guidance. I do not believe in rushing the process or pushing clients to share more than they are ready to. Therapy with me is collaborative, and I value open communication about what feels helpful, what doesn’t, and how we can adjust our work together. I work best with clients who are open to self-reflection and interested in understanding their emotional experiences, behaviors, and relationship patterns. You do not need to have clear goals or the “right words” to begin therapy. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or simply seeking greater clarity, therapy is a space to slow down, explore your experiences, and build greater confidence in how you navigate life and relationships.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first few sessions focus on building rapport and gaining a clear understanding of your concerns, history, and goals for therapy. We will explore what brought you to therapy, any relevant background information, and what you hope will feel different as a result of our work together. This phase helps ensure therapy is aligned with your needs and expectations. Ongoing sessions typically involve a combination of open conversation, emotional processing, reflection, and skill-building. I may integrate elements from evidence-based approaches such as cognitive-behavioral strategies, emotion-focused work, and trauma-informed care, depending on what is most appropriate for you. Sessions are conversational but purposeful, with attention to both insight and practical application. We will regularly check in about progress and make adjustments as needed. Therapy is not a rigid process, and I aim to remain flexible and responsive as your needs evolve. The goal is to support meaningful, sustainable growth that extends beyond the therapy room.
