“I had couples counseling and individual counseling. She always had educational material to back up her counseling. She never jumped on anyones side and she was a neutral party. She let you know when I was wrong and when I needed to hit the brakes on my actions. I love the fact that she is a straight shooter. I would recommend using her.”

Getting to know Charity Thomas

Are you struggling with issues related to trauma, depression, addiction, anxiety, anger, bad memories, or major life changes? Are you a first responder-firefighter, police officer, paramedic, EMT-or a veteran? Are you pretending to have it all together, feeling trapped, alone, misunderstood, and lost on your journey? If so, you have come to the right place! I am here to help you knock down those walls you've created and lead you to the serenity you've always deserved-a serenity where you can feel safe, heard, and secure. Allow me to walk beside you and help you build the confidence, self-compassion, and self-love you've longed to have. You don't need to hide your feelings behind an illusion anymore, and you don't need to fake your happiness to those around you. Life is a journey, and sometimes the path we are looking for can be hard to find, but I don't believe we are ever lost or destined not to find it. I believe that just as life always finds a way, so do we. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Substance Abuse and Addictions from the University of the Cumberlands. I have worked with adolescents, adults, couples, veterans, and first responders struggling with challenges related to anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, relationship issues, and substance abuse. Life can be overwhelming and at times utterly exhausting, but I'm here to guide you through any obstacles you may face, to help you understand yourself more deeply, and better cope with change. If there is one thing I know, it is that together we can fix this-and together we will find your serenity!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I know making the decision to come to therapy can be difficult, scary and leave you feeling vulnerable but taking that first step is the key to unlocking the door towards becoming your best self. You are the true expert of yourself and often just need additional encouragement to identify and explore areas that are no longer working. Vulnerability, shame, and guilt can prevent you from seeking the help and support you need to find solace in your head, heart and life. I am a daughter of Veteran and wife of a fire fighter. I know personally the stigmas and stressors that come along with seeking treatment. I have a deep understanding and love of the firefighting, EMT, and paramedic communities. Break those chains that keep you from seeking, happiness, forgiveness, healing, and serenity. One of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. Having a good grasp of the very real issues with which first responders must face and handle on a daily basis I will help you navigate the issues and memories that haunt you and find real, lasting solutions for long term healing. I promise I won't bite, but I am a loud Bostonian haha! Allow me to walk and guide you on your path to uncovering and rediscovering who you are and what you already know but struggling to see. ?

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is to meet you where you are while encouraging you to build and grow into your best self. We are all unique and no two people are the same. Therefore, my therapy is not a one size fits all. Since we require different approaches, I combine my modalities and theories to provide you the best treatment for your individual needs. I encourage you to be your own advocate while learning to connect your dots along your journey and pave your own path to a healing and serenity.

I've been with Charity for nearly 2 years and I've been a better person, mother, and co-worker for it. Her honesty, compassion, and tools that she has given me have left an indelible mark on my life.
Throughout the years of therapy I’ve had, I have to say with complete honesty that Charity is one of the BEST therapists I’ve ever had. I started working with her a couple of years ago and I have changed so much with the help of her sessions. If you’re looking for someone to challenge your irrational core beliefs, insecurities, process sexual abuse trauma, recover from a horrible breakup, or guide you in building self-confidence, she is the best person for this role. I know this only because I’ve worked through all of these various topics with her and I feel like I’m starting to live the life I’ve always deserved to have. I’m eternally thankful for the lessons I’ve learned while in her care and I 100% recommend her as a therapist!! Thank you Charity!!
Charity was understanding, calm, and compassionate. She was able to guide me out of my own spiral and point me back into the light by giving me tools and encouragement to succeed. She was my rock when I felt I was drowning. She acknowledged my pain but helped me to understand that I didn’t have to live under its shadow. I’m happy to say that I have moved beyond my darkest of days and I’m enjoying my life and journeys.
