Getting to know Charles Goldberg

If you're looking for fluff-free, no-nonsense psychotherapy, I'm the guy you've been looking for. It's all too easy to lose touch with the things we stand for, as well as with the things that mean most to us. You were whole at one point, which means a path to sanity exists that is waiting to be uncovered. Yet these unhelpful behaviors have been heavily reinforced over time. The change ahead is not going to be easy or comfortable, but you don't have to face it alone. I'm a clinical psychotherapist specializing in mental health and addictions, with a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from DePaul University. I've been in the field for the last fourteen years in various capacities and have worked with hundreds of clients from a variety of different backgrounds. Nevertheless, I've realized no two stories are the same, and I'm excited to hear yours.

What should a new client know about working with you?

While working with me, I'm going to help you feel safe and cared for. I will be a person who will always grant you positive regard and acceptance. However, I am not a counselor who merely says "uh-huh" and "How does that make you feel?" Past clients have told me that my ability to break down situations and clearly explain relational dynamics helped them to gain new insight into their respective histories and overall functioning. I'm going to push you to be your best self, and I'm going to hold you accountable for it, all while being extremely supportive and nurturing. My approach blends both cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic theories with teachings from philosophy, mythology, and Jewish mysticism. Yes, it actually is as cool as it sounds.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe that the role of a therapist that gets most frequently neglected in therapy is that of a teacher. If a person is shelling out time and money to meet with me, I better have what to offer. My goal is to provide you with tools that have been tried and tested in helping you achieve some level of triumph over whatever it is you're facing. Nevertheless, our greatest weapon against your problems will be our connection; I want our relationship to be warm and inviting, and as far from sterile as humanly possible.

Charles Goldberg is my real life version of Mike Ehrmantraut - Breaking Bad reference… He he has my back always, calls me on my issues as needed, and constantly meets me where I’m at.
Mr. Goldberg is a very courteous and engaged professional, compassionate and generous in taking the time to appreciate and understand his clients as individuals. He is very proactive about setting goals and making plans to address concerns and change lives for the better. He doesn’t sit back and start the meter as you vent and kvetch but talks, reacts, educates, and empathizes enthusiastically. Thankfully, Mr. Goldberg has a robust sense of humor and a nonjudgmental, youthful, down-to-earth, and encouraging approach to treatment. You will be happy you gave it a go. Change is inevitable but progress is not a given. I believe this kind man will be an effective coach, cheerleader, mentor, and educator for many people over the span of his career. You know what the Apex guy said…he can’t call you.
