Charlotte Knight, MHC

Psychotherapist
NY
My name is Charlotte and I'm so happy that you're here! When people seek therapy, it is often because either them or their loved ones wish for their lives to improve, but face some barrier in making that happen. My job is to provide you with a relationship to explore what brought you here, choose where you want to go, and provide you with unconditional positive regard throughout that process. I am a firm believer that your past informs your present, and this applies to what brings you to therapy. I adopt a primarily psychodynamic approach, integrating dialectical-behavoiral therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy when helpful to you. My clinical experience has been centered around helping individuals through the complex impact of trauma, whether this be sexual, physical, or emotional. I recognize that the symptoms that brought you here have protected you in some way, but now hinder you in others. We will work together to find a lighter way of living.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I approach therapy with the goal of creating a relationship with you. As the cornerstone of any relationship is trust, understanding, and feeling connected, my first priority is to be a person that understands you and uplifts you. With this in place, the therapeutic work comes more naturally and feels less intimidating.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For visits with me, you can expect to engage in whatever conversation makes you feel most comfortable - whether it be what brings you here, what’s on your mind that day, what you’d like from me, questions you may have about me, or even just your favorite things to do. I find that sometimes the most meaningful progress is made talking about the people or activities you’re most passionate about, and make the process enjoyable at the same time. We go at whatever pace you’re most comfortable, and you are accepted here unconditionally.
