Getting to know Chelsea Strand
I specialize in OCD and use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the most effective, evidence-based treatment for OCD. Beyond our sessions, you'll have access to ongoing support when you need it most, including direct messaging, support groups, and real-time help when OCD symptoms spike.
I have lived experience with OCD; I know how it can make daily life a struggle. I approach OCD like any other mental health disorder — these conditions are not who you are as a person. Our main goal is to work on making you feel better and able to manage your day-to-day life while living with OCD.
What I want to help you see in yourself
I want you to realize your worth. So often, people with OCD come in for treatment really struggling with self-esteem and self-doubt, and feeling very alone. I love being able to remind them that they are so very worthy, and that they deserve to get better. Seeing people come to realize how important they are to the world is a beautiful thing.
My message to you if you're considering therapy
Keep in mind that there is a ton of research behind exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy. I know it might feel a little intimidating to think about purposely making yourself uncomfortable, but there is a method behind ERP, and that method is the reason why it is so effective. This is the best therapy for OCD.
What should a new client know about working with you?
How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy:
I'll always let you know that our sessions are very confidential, and that it's okay to express yourself. Some people feel that their intrusive thoughts and the things they're going through can be scary and shocking to others, but I know a lot about mental health and OCD, and you're not going to shock or scare me in any way.
My personal connection to OCD and mental health
I have OCD myself. I've dealt with it for most of my life, and I think it helps me better relate to my Members. Everyone's OCD is unique, but it can be very helpful to know that other people have gone through something similar to you, so I do share my own experience when it's appropriate.
