Hi, I’m Chemenda Sawyer, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I earned my master’s degree in counseling and have been in practice since 2019. I believe therapy should feel like a place you can exhale—where you’re met with warmth, honesty, and support that actually fits your real life. I specialize in working with Black women (30–55) who are navigating anxiety, depression, overwhelm, and the pressure to hold everything together. Many of my clients are high-functioning on the outside but exhausted on the inside—struggling with overthinking, people-pleasing, perfectionism, and emotional burnout. I also support couples who feel stuck in painful patterns, including communication breakdowns, trust issues, infidelity recovery, and rebuilding emotional connection. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and practical. In sessions, we’ll talk through what’s been weighing on you, identify the patterns keeping you stuck, and build tools you can use between appointments—like grounding strategies, boundary skills, and healthier ways to communicate your needs. With couples, I use Gottman-informed strategies to help partners reduce conflict, strengthen friendship and intimacy, and create more secure connection. I’ll meet you where you are, while also helping you move forward with clarity and intention. I became a therapist because I’ve seen how often people—especially Black women—are expected to be “strong” at the expense of their emotional wellbeing. I wanted to create a space where you don’t have to perform or carry it alone. You can show up exactly as you are, and we’ll work together to help you feel more balanced, confident, and emotionally steady. Outside of therapy, I love traveling and learning about different cultures, exploring wellness practices, and getting creative with plant-based meals.
