Getting to know Cheri Counterman

Are you ready to make a change? I'm Cheri Counterman, LCSW, with a Master's in Social Work from Arizona State University. I've been working as a therapist and medical social worker for over a decade. I've supported clients facing a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, self-esteem issues, trauma, and more. My therapeutic approach specializes in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), while also incorporating other effective methods like CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and MI (Motivational Interviewing). I am passionate about learning new therapeutic skills and attend yearly trainings to stay current with evidence-based therapies that best serve my clients. I understand that asking for help can be one of the most vulnerable things we do as humans. That's why I prioritize making your time with me as comfortable as possible. My goal is to create an open, safe space where you feel supported in whatever you need from me. I believe every person is valuable and deserves love and support, no matter their past. Everyone has a unique story and journey through life; my role is not only to listen but also to help guide you toward healing your mind, body, and spirit so you can live the life you're meant to live!

What should a new client know about working with you?

My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic and rational-emotive counseling. I will tailor our treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Cheri is absolutely amazing. She makes me feel like I am capable and can do anything. She has taught me so much and empowered me to know that I am able to do hard things and that no matter what, I am going to make it and continue being strong. She's truly the best.
What sets Cheri apart is her unparalleled ability to create an atmosphere of warmth and acceptance. From the moment I met with her virtually, I felt enveloped in a sense of safety and understanding. Her genuine compassion and empathy made it effortless to open up about even the most daunting aspects of my past trauma. In her presence, vulnerability became a catalyst for growth rather than a source of fear. One of the most remarkable aspects of my therapeutic experience has been the way Cheri effortlessly connects the dots between my past experiences and my present emotions. Through her keen insight and astute observations, she helped me unravel the intricate layers of my psyche, shining a light on patterns and behaviors that had long been buried beneath the surface. With each session, I found myself making profound connections that not only provided clarity but also empowered me to navigate life's complexities with newfound resilience. But what truly sets Cheri apart is her authenticity. There are no pretenses or facades in her approach to therapy. She meets me where I am, embracing my journey with unwavering authenticity and genuine care. Her authenticity creates a space where I feel seen, heard, and understood in a way that transcends words alone. Her welcoming demeanor, genuine compassion, and authentic presence have transformed my therapeutic journey into a profound exploration of self-discovery and growth. With her guidance, I've not only learned to confront my past traumas but also to embrace the full spectrum of my emotions with courage and grace. For anyone seeking a transformative therapeutic experience, I wholeheartedly recommend entrusting their journey to the remarkable expertise of Cheri. She is, without a doubt, the epitome of what it means to be an exceptional therapist.
I absolutely love Cheri! I was really skeptical at first talking to a therapist, but I am so glad I met Cheri. I never realized how much I needed an outlet to talk to someone and figure out more about myself. She is very helpful and easy to talk too! I would recommend her to anyone!
