Psychotherapist
NM
Hi there, I'm Cheryl! Hi I am a counselor with 10 years of working in my community! My name is Cheryl Birmingham and I am a LCSW licensed clinical social worker. My approach to therapy involves healing minds and hearts from afflictions and damage to empowerment and clear understanding of your gifts and strengths. The focus of my practice is on understanding relationships within ourselves with our mind, heart, body, spirit and within. My approach My therapeutic approach is to guide and support you from where you are at to where you would like to go. This may involve using coping strategies from cognitive behavioral therapy which focused on thoughts, feelings and behaviors as well as dialectical behavioral therapy which utilizes mindfulness to be more present in the moment along with emotional regulation to assist with anger and other emotions, distress tolerance to cope with crisis and other situations which are stress inducing, and interpersonal effectiveness to assist with improving communication. I use the allegory of nature and the natural laws as well as faith in a higher power such as Jesus as a way to also support and at time facilitate healing from anxiety, panic, depression, trauma, borderline personality disorder or bipolar personality disorder. My focus I often have been working successfully with clients who have had symptoms of anxiety, trauma, sleeping disorders, abuse and neglect, dealing with narcissim, dealing with sick family or care providing for family, dealing with family that are addicted, death of a pet or family member or partner, grief and loss, depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, bipolar disorder, and borderline disorder. These are some of the symptoms I have been able to work with and treat along with family conflicts, poor communication, job stressors, financial stressors, health stressors, and relationship stressors. I often have been working with adults over 20 years of age.
