“I had previously seen two therapists at Kaiser Permanente, but neither could help. Then Alameda County recommended Kyle Fong, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). He speaks Cantonese and English. I am incredibly grateful for the six-plus months of counseling he provided. His professional knowledge and patient listening to my tearful outpourings helped me understand how to cope with the stress and pain of my unhappy marriage. He offered me counseling and therapy, encouraging me and helping me slowly emerge from despair. He told me to love myself and not to do anything that would harm myself or cause pain to my two children and family. Unfortunately, my health insurance will be changed to Covered California in 2026, meaning I will no longer be able to receive counseling from Fong. I highly recommend Fong as a therapist for anyone in need. And thank you so much I appreciate it Kyle.”

Getting to know Chin (Kyle) Fong

I am genuinely a gentle, kind, caring soul who will foster a safe space to build a trusting relationship. Your journey of healing will be one of respect and guided discovery. As a fellow human being and as a father, child, brother, friend, and cousin, I know depression very well and have experienced it too. If you are feeling low and down on your luck, you are not alone. I can empathize with many of you. Your empowerment and recovery are very meaningful to me. I believe each of you has the strength and knowledge to heal, but it is often blocked by painful memories. The key to the treatment plan is collaboration. I will respect your readiness to move forward. Each of us has unique experiences and is at different stages of life. This is your journey, so I will be attentive to your desired pace. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Boston University, which has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to support you effectively.

What should a new client know about working with you?

We are a great match if you are connected with your emotions or strongly desire it. I tend to explore how painful memories in childhood may affect the present. You can expect a safe space for you to vent and a trustworthy therapist who can support you in your journey of healing. You can expect to learn more about how your past continues to affect your present. You will gain insight on what needs to be done to move on and transform yourself to a better self. My clients often report a sense of relief in anger, guilt, sadness, grief, and tense muscles. Once this is done, you will be able to forgive and move on much easier.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My specialties are AF EMDR (Attachment Focused Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) therapy, Brainspotting, and Super Resourcing. If you have traumatic experiences, painful childhood, low self-esteem, I may be the perfect match for you. These things haunted me for 35 years. CBT, DBT, and talk therapy gave me some relief, but it was AF EMDR that transformed me and gave me the healing I needed. Rest assured, I can walk the talk and guide you in your journey of self discovery and healing.

Kyle was a good listener and very observant. He really helped me understand and work out my issues.

Kyle was amazing. He helped me get through my rough patch last year and I still use the skills he taught me to this day. He is extremely patient and very knowledgeable. Having him as my therapist definitely helped me develop as a person. I highly recommend Kyle. He is very informative and the things he taught me definitely stuck.
I saw Kyle for a little over two years, and in that time I found him to be very attentive and understanding. As an Asian person, I had a hard time finding a therapist I could truly connect with, but seeing Kyle changed that. His compassion and empathy toward the challenges I faced came from a place of real cultural understanding, and that made a huge difference. Although I’m no longer seeing him, I’m very grateful for the time we worked together and would highly recommend him.
Kyle is an amazing therapist and extremely passionate about what he does. He isn’t afraid to dig in and offer his expertise combined with a thorough examination of why you’re experiencing what you are experiencing. For my purposes most of my life has been rooted in fear. We visited those hard to reach places and through EMDR therapy he helped resolve and find perspective on how I viewed and stored those specific imprints. I highly recommend Kyle, but you need to be willing to do the work. Kyle isn’t here to offer a lending ear and console you (unless that’s what you need), he wants to make you a better you, and that’s done through the work - so you can live your life.
My first session with Kyle was informative. He explained EMDR and brain spotting in a relatable way using personal examples. I was most impressed by the follow up email right after our appointment. It included the specifics of what I needed to work on for our next appointment.
Kyle has been a wonderful supportive and knowledgeable therapist who I would highly recommend to anyone currently struggling or on a path to mental health wellness!
Just wanted to say how grateful I am for Kyle. He's such a great therapist – attentive and truly empathetic. His advice is always clear and trustworthy. Kyle's patience and calm manner in explaining things, coupled with his creativity in finding new ways to help, are remarkable. He's incredibly kind and thoughtful. I'm so glad to have him as my therapist.

Working with Kyle was absolutely wonderful! I felt very safe and trusting within our first session. I always appreciated his calm, warm, empathetic, and professional demeanor. After working with Kyle for some time, I finally feel ready to take on life’ challenges in ways I never could before. I’m much more in tune with my emotions and my relationships and outlook on life have improved drastically. I highly recommend Kyle to anyone who wants to feel more confident and in tune with who they really are. Thanks for the life changing experience!
Kyle has been instrumental in helping me recover from my condition. He is a highly qualified and knowledgeable therapist, very patient, very empathetic, a great listener, and who is extremely attentive towards the smallest of details. I saw him for close to 4 months, and it was a total pleasure working with him throughout my journey. He made it really easy and comfortable for me to open up and share everything about my life with abandon. I highly recommend working with Kyle, he is a fantastic therapist, a thorough professional at what he does, and can surely help anyone cope with their mental health-related issues. Thank you Kyle, and wish you all the very best! I look forward to working with you again in the near future!!
Kyle has played a huge role in my growth and healing. He is patient and good at what he does and very knowledgeable in the different aspects of EMDR and therapy. All around one of the best therapist experiences I have ever had.
Wanted to have a behavioral health visit to learn how to better cope with stress and an anxious spouse, and be more supportive and patient with people around me. This provider is not good at listening - or perhaps is more suited for traumatic situations and not my vanilla case. He kept probing for some grand climactic "aha" moment to link some traumatic childhood thing to my more pragmatic need to be less annoyed when someone doesn't clean up their mess at work etc, and didn't really seem to listen that I'm a fairly well adjusted person who wants to be a more supportive spouse. Anyways, I've only tried one other therapist to try to get a better understanding on how to improve, but this was a colossal and incredibly awkward waste of time.

I’ve had many therapist throughout the years and I’ve never had someone that I felt connected to and comfortable telling my story to. Kyle had similar experiences and made me feel comfortable right away.
Kyle is a phenomenal therapist! I have had very bad/unhelpful experiences with therapists before and he is the best one I've worked with thus far. Unlike other therapists, Kyle doesn't give a one-size-fits-all approach. Kyle actually listens and remembers details, and he works with you to walk you through your own self-realizations. I have had many startling realizations when working with him. I also like that he is empathetic and doesn't judge. He helped me with my sleep paralysis, anxiety, trauma, and self-doubt issues. I have felt more energy and more optimism in my everyday because of our sessions. He also gives you some "take-away" mantras for after your visit, which I have found helpful in reducing my depression/anxiety.
Would highly recommend a visit with Kyle! Particularly if you have a precise issue or question. I thought Kyle excelled at applying a clear methodology in order to get down to specifics. This clear methodology also left room for your learning about your own experiences, and discovering your own answers in a guided way.
Kyle is a very professional Chinese Cantonese-speaking psychiatrist. I sincerely thank this enthusiastic, caring, and professional medical service spirit. I can accept and change my views. I have a new one in my life. Once again grateful! I wish you all the best!
Kyle is very attentive and empathetic. I appreciate his ability to explain the EMDR method and provide assurance that the techniques will work. Kyle is relatable and candid and was willing to share stories his experiences which made me feel safe. I appreciate his patience and positivity. I can confidently say he has helped improve my self-esteem and reduce my anxiety. It has been a pleasure working with him.
A very brief summary of my first experience with Kyle would be summed up into a very insightful and lovely encounter. He has a very welcoming demeanor and presence, which allowed me to really feel comfortable and open up. I am very excited to continue with him!

I loved how patient and understanding Kyle was. He makes sure you feel okay no matter what. He truly inspires me to become someone that has integrity, is courageous and down to earth. He made me feel comfortable, he was understanding and changed my perspective entirely on what my viewpoint was before. When I’m crying, he has an amazing empathetic understanding. I used to think EMDR was too lengthy, so I wasn’t as interested in it. However, Kyle has adjusted to my likings and made it shorter for me. I am proud to say that Kyle has made me a better person, sister, student, friend and family member. Recently, I’ve been stressed, struggling with my past and with the present and he’s taught me that it is okay to feel those feelings. I love how he can connect exactly with how you feel, because it makes you feel like you are human. Whatever he does, he tries to maximize his potential. He’s super hard working with his practice and he absolutely deserves a raise. Kyle is my hero.
I have been doing online appointments with Kyle for about a month and a few weeks now and I am really seeing improvements and changes after our sessions. We have been doing EMDR and Kyle is great at guiding me through difficult and painful memories and helping me come up with solutions and practices to cope with various degrees of trauma. He is also very nice, and pays close attention to details. I definitely recommend him!

Kyle works with our son. He is excellent and has helped our son work through a trauma. He has quickly become a valued and trusted part of our son’s life. He communicates regularly with us and is a huge support for my son. We are so grateful for Kyle.
Kyle is always very validating and reassuring of my feelings, thoughts, and concerns. I feel supported by him, and he has provided me with invaluable tools to rebuild myself and develop healthier coping mechanisms. I don't feel judged or unfairly labeled by him, as I do by so many people in my personal life. Thank you, Kyle, for everything.
Dr Fong is an empathic and kind individual with whom I am glad to have had the chance to start my therapy journey. Highly recommend to anyone thinking about working through negative beliefs and repressed childhood memories.
Kyle is relatable, knowledgeable, and flexible. Based on my feedback, he is willing to find out what works and what does not. He likes to offer options to fit different timelines. I gain many new perspectives during our secession.
I am starting with before my visit... A first Step, I was impressed with the name it gave me courage to walk thru the front door. I was greeted by Kyle personally and given a tour of my surroundings. I needed to be in more than a safe place. I needed to work with an established professional with ethics and integrity. I asked about Kyles education and experience. His expertise is credited to his inside knowledge of Psychology. I was more than comfortable to establish a trusting working relationship and continue to do so. With Kyle's personality, wit, and excitement of doing his Job! And being at work to make the difference in mine and others minds is the best one could hope for. I feel without assistance, I could not have grown and accepted help by first seeking it for myself. Trauma - where to go working with pain? A fundamental painful process and I walk and process mine with Kyle. My Therapist! I am grateful for being here and submitting my review. Thank you! Kristy
Kyle is very dedicated to finding treatment methods that work for his clients. His personal experiences gave me much hope in my treatment plan and I was grateful for the stories he shared of his own challenges and triumphs.
Very powerful! Kyle help me gain a higher sense of self worth is one session. Much more than I expected compared to my other experiences.
