Psychotherapist
TN
Hello, I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of Texas with 29 years of counseling and ministry experience. I earned my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Texas A&M University. I began as a minister of the Gospel in the Southern Baptist tradition in 1993, working with the homeless to overcome struggles with addiction and hopelessness in North Carolina and Tennessee. From there, I became a case manager in a rural outpatient behavioral health clinic, helping the chronically mentally ill live independently outside of institutional settings. As my family of five children grew, my wife encouraged me to join the military in 2007, and for the next 13 years, we served alongside our Soldiers and their Families as chaplains. There, I learned through experience how to work through the stress of multiple transitions, the unyielding demands for time and energy, and the unjust nature of toxic environments. I learned how to support those who wanted to strengthen themselves and their relationships in these environments and to ultimately be at peace with who they are and who they want to be. As I have matured in my training and become licensed in marriage and family therapy, I have found that I now specialize in using Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help individuals identify their strengths and the beliefs guiding their behavior. With this knowledge, people can begin to choose who they want to be.

What should a new client know about working with you?

After the first session, you can expect to walk away with an overall goal that you would like to achieve along with the first two to three steps to take toward that goal. It is my hope to help you accomplish your goal as briefly as possible. I would like to accomplish this in as few as 6 to 8 sessions. I absolutely understand how goals change and am flexible to stay in tune with how I can help you today.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Very fair and presents problem solving solutions
let me start off by Saying this was our first couples counseling so I don’t have much to compare. However I felt like he was really struggling to find his words and form his thoughts. He spent a lot of time talking about himself and policies which I understand need to be explained but it was very repetitive and cut into too much time of the appointment. he finally asked us how can I help you?… Which I thought was very open and a general question.??.. but anyway my husband and I both talked for about 60 seconds each and it already got heated. When my husband stopped talking the therapist seemed like he didn’t know what to say and suggested we do individual counseling so he could get to know us better. Then he went on to talk about what the future appointments would be like. I expected him to get to know us in this session and be able to help facilitate a conversation. The session ended? early.
