Christa Walker

Psychotherapist
TN
I am a Middle Tennessee native and a proud graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where I earned my Master’s of Social Work. I bring significant experience to my practice, helping individuals navigate challenges such as religious trauma, substance abuse, grief and loss, attachment difficulties, and life transitions for young adults. My approach integrates CBT, DBT, ACT, Mindful Self-Compassion, and Mindfulness, while incorporating my deep interest in the neurological aspects of therapy. I am also a Certified Yoga Instructor with a disciplined yoga practice. Outside of my work, I am an outdoor enthusiast who loves hiking, camping, biking, and spending time on the water. I provide care that is deeply attuned, emotionally grounded, and practically effective. My approach is trauma-informed, insight-oriented, and action-focused, with a strong foundation in relational and values-based work. I believe therapy should not only help clients understand why they feel the way they do but also support them in taking meaningful steps toward change. I meet clients where they are—with warmth, honesty, and a calm presence—and help them explore the internal patterns, family dynamics, and societal pressures that shaped them. Using a mix of depth-oriented reflection, DBT and CBT tools, psychoeducation, and somatic awareness, I support clients in building insight, emotional resilience, and healthier ways of relating to themselves and others. I encourage my clients to engage with therapy as an active process, often incorporating weekly reflections, journaling prompts, real-life experiments, and structure for accountability. I help clients reconnect to their values, clarify what matters most, and build lives that feel authentic and self-directed. My style is collaborative, affirming, and gently challenging when needed—grounded in the belief that healing requires both compassion and courage.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Based on my experience, I have found that my approach and style are a good fit for Adults, College-age and young adults, Religious Trauma Survivors, Neurodivergent Individuals, Women's Issues, Grief and End-of-Life Care, Older Adults, Relational Trauma, and Family Dynamics. My communication style is open, warm, and human. I practice high disclosure with appropriate boundaries, believing that people heal best through authentic relationships, not clinical detachment. Most clients leave my sessions feeling like they’ve spent time with a trusted, grounded friend rather than a distant professional. I honor each client as the expert on their own life and use collaboration, curiosity, and practical tools to support their self-determination, build confidence, and create lasting change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I came to psychology through a search for good philosophy—a desire to understand what makes life meaningful and how people grow. In my 20s, I went through a personal season of deep work: researching, experimenting, and applying everything I could to manage my depression and anxiety. Through that process, I discovered that real change is possible. Not easy, but possible. I began to believe—fiercely—that people can become stronger, wiser, and more whole with each passing year. I don’t expect anything of my clients that I haven’t walked through myself. My work is rooted in that lived empathy and in the unshakable belief that healing isn’t reserved for the lucky few. Everyone deserves the chance to evolve into a better version of themselves, no matter where they’re starting from. My approach is equal parts heart and strategy: compassionate, curious, and focused on helping clients take brave, meaningful steps toward growth. Therapy, to me, isn’t about fixing broken people—it’s about walking alongside someone as they remember who they are and build a life they’re proud to live. I help clients reach their goals by combining deep insight with practical action. I work collaboratively to clarify what truly matters to each client, then offer tools, skills, and structured support to help them move forward. My approach blends values-based work, psychoeducation, and emotional processing, empowering clients to trust themselves and take intentional steps toward growth. Through weekly reflections, accountability, and gentle challenges, I help clients build momentum and create meaningful, sustainable change.
