Getting to know Christine Dassow

Hello! I'm Christine Dassow, Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC), with a MEd and EdS in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Florida. I want to help you achieve the life you want. In every session, I aim for you to feel safe, heard, empowered, and that we're working together to help you on your best path of relief. Coming to therapy can be nerve-wracking, even if you have been in it before, and I understand the difficulty in opening up to someone new. That's why we go at your pace and every step of the way I check in and make sure we are on the same page. After all, that's how we'll get the change you desire! My areas of specialty include anxiety, ADHD, self-esteem, academic concerns, adjustment/life transitions, and personal development (identity, spiritual, gender, sexuality questioning, transitioning, coming out). I've worked with young adults for most of my 22-year career and love to tailor my sessions to each of your unique needs, be it using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to change illogical and unhealthy thinking or Expressive Arts Therapy, which uses art and music. But guess what, I integrate other methods as well because I love to be creative and find what works best for YOU. I can't wait to be your therapist.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you book a time with me it will be for a free 15 minute phone consultation. We will discuss your needs, the platforms I use, and cost/insurance. I work from a Humanistic and Person-Centered perspective at my core, which means you are the expert in the room. You know yourself best! I work as the facilitator to help you along your path in achieving your most desired self, though. When you are my client, you'll experience my genuine nature, honesty, openness, and large interest in your progress. That's why I love being a therapist, after all. I adore seeing my clients grow.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your therapy sessions are tailored to your unique needs but every client will have a free 15 minute phone consultation where I’ll answer any questions you have, find out what brings to you therapy at this time of your life and what your concerns are that you’d like help with, and get you started with your client portal through SimplePractice (and Headway if using insurance), the confidential telehealth platforms I use. Next, an intake session will be scheduled. In this intake/first session, we’ll review your submitted paperwork about your history and current concerns and you’ll have already signed consent forms for therapy. This session is more information-gathering than future sessions, which are more exploratory. The best way for me to help you is to know your background so we can make a beneficial treatment plan of goals to reach together. Finally, we’ll have individual sessions. Woo hoo! In an individual session, I like to check in with how you’ve been doing since our last contact, explore concerns, work on new strategies together in session, and have you be able to take away an action step(s) for your relief. Sometimes this looks like thinking/growing awareness of self and sometimes this may mean trying out new behaviors, such as what we tried in session. Everything that occurs in session is agreed upon by both parties. After all, it’s your therapy time!
