Christine Kelly, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
I specialize in working with young adults who are navigating the stress, uncertainty, and emotional intensity that can come with this stage of life. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, ADHD, relationship challenges, or experiences like borderline personality disorder (BPD), my goal is to create a space where you feel understood, not judged. I primarily use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a practical, skills-based approach that helps you manage overwhelming emotions, improve relationships, and feel more in control day-to-day. Together, we’ll focus on building tools for mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and communication—skills you can actually use in real life. My style is collaborative, down-to-earth, and genuine. I know starting therapy can feel intimidating, so I work to make sessions feel comfortable, relatable, and tailored to you. We’ll explore patterns, build insight, and create meaningful, lasting change at a pace that feels right. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or just not like yourself, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Therapy with me is about helping you make sense of what you’re going through and supporting you in building a life that feels more stable, balanced, and yours.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is a collaborative and supportive experience. My style is warm, casual, and genuine. I want to show up as a real person, not just a therapist. I often use humor when it feels appropriate, because I believe therapy doesn’t always have to feel heavy to be meaningful. I place a strong emphasis on the relationship we build. Feeling comfortable, understood, and safe is the foundation for any real progress, so I prioritize creating an environment where you can be yourself without fear of judgment. My approach is grounded in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), so along with open conversation, you can expect to learn practical skills to help manage emotions, navigate stress, and improve relationships. Sessions are a balance of talking things through and building tools you can actually use in your day-to-day life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, we’ll start by getting to know each other. I’ll ask about what’s bringing you in, your background, and what you’d like to get out of therapy but it’s a conversation, not an interrogation. My goal is to help you feel comfortable and understood from the start. In ongoing sessions, we’ll balance talking through what’s coming up in your life with building practical skills you can use outside of therapy. Since I use DBT, we’ll focus on things like managing emotions, handling stress, and improving relationships but always in a way that feels relevant to you. I take a collaborative approach, which means we’ll regularly check in on your goals and adjust as needed. Some sessions may be more structured and skill-focused, while others may be more open and reflective, depending on what you need that day.
