Christopher Aaron Boatwright, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
While working as a middle school shop teacher, I observed the important role of the school counselor and decided to pursue a master's in School Counseling from Amberton University. While working on that degree, I saw the opportunity to become a full-time mental health counselor and stayed in grad school to earn a second master's in Professional Counseling, also from Amberton University. I continued teaching as long as I was able while working on my hours to become a fully licensed Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas. Once I realized the challenges of remaining a teacher and acquiring the 3,000 hours required for full licensure, I left teaching to work in a geriatric psych hospital as a full-time therapist. Working in the hospital increased my confidence in communicating with clients and family members. In that setting, I handled any case assigned to me, and through treatment team meetings, I learned from and contributed to other therapists' caseloads. Since becoming fully licensed and working independently, I try to take on any situation that presents itself, though I remain aware of my limits. I have had strong success helping clients overcome depression and manage and reduce anxiety. I have also helped clients with a limited number of sessions work through seemingly trivial problems that caused significant issues in their relationships. Whether working with individuals or couples, I have had very positive results helping couples improve their relationships. Clients have learned to communicate better and enjoy their time together. As a client recently told me, I either gave him the tools or helped him find the tools he needed to work on his relationship with his wife. He said it is up to him to figure out which tool works best in each situation. I hold a Bachelor's degree from Texas State University, along with my two master's degrees from Amberton University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In each session I hope the client will find more confidence in themselves. I hope clients will have a better understanding of identifying challenges in their lives and learn to take on those challenges. I want client not to think of their lives as being full of problems, but full of challenges. I want clients to realize challenges make life interesting when we take on those challenges. I want clients to establish goals in their lives and develop plans for how to achieve those goals. I frequently tell my clients goals without a plan of how to achieve them are just dreams. Yes we need dreams but to make them come true we also need plans. In addition to these things I want my clients to understand the power of a smile. There is an old saying when you smile the world smiles back.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
