Hi there, I'm Christopher! I am Chris Doggett, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. "There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in" – Leonard Cohen. The cracks show up in your dreams, the connections in what you speak about week to week; that's what I listen for in the room. We look for what your inner Self is trying to communicate to you, what you don't know you don't know. You can say anything in the room, or nothing. The breaking open of the heart allows the love in. My approach My studies have included extensive work with dreams, the medicine of Indigenous people, the deep listening of Freud and Lacan, the deep love in the heart of the Shaivite-Tantric traditions, and the place of LGBTQ 2Spirit people in the world in terms of gifts and purpose, along with the transformative relational couples therapy of Terry Real. I earned my Bachelor's and Master's in Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies. My focus My focus is on clients seeking meaning in their lives, their gifts and purpose. Presenting symptoms vary from depression, anxiety, grief, health concerns, addiction, and coming out, to couples who want to stand up to one another with love. My communication style I create an environment where clients can speak whatever is present, especially if it is uncomfortable. With active listening, I strive to create a space of respect, non-judgment, and understanding. Clients leave sessions feeling heard and cared for. My journey to mental healthcare My journey included an eclectic mix of dreamwork, work with shame in Peru, and psychic healing. In my late fifties, a brief depth session of eight dreams with my dreamwork teacher led me to go back to school and get licensed. After finishing my BA and Master's at the California Institute of Integral Studies, and much practice, study, and training in dreams and couples therapy, I passed the licensure exam.
