What should a new client know about working with you?

I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults for the past 10 years. I work particularly well with the 14-24 year old population and tend to connect easily and receive positive feedback around comfort and rapport. I'm certified in ADHD and in Grief. I use CBT but also focus heavily on psychoeducation, oftentimes around attachment work and self esteem building. I try to use humor and being very genuine with my clients to help them feel comfortable. I also try to balance being a strong listener with helping them make sense of situations and develop strategies together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

First we discuss therapy including previous therapy experiences they may have had (what worked well, what they liked/disliked). Next we collaborate on a therapy plan that would make sense for them based upon what they are going through and what they would like help with. We go over the presenting issues together. Over the first few sessions, I go through many common diagnoses to make sure I"m not missing any other important areas that could be impacting the client as well. I also gather background personal/life history so that I have context when listening to clients' stories. Afterwards, we generally discuss each week to work on things happening in their life that might be stressful or difficult, while also connecting to any past situations/trauma etc and looking for patterns that could be continuing and will work on cbt or skill building to switch course to healthier outcomes and reduction in symptoms or improvement in these areas.
