Getting to know Christopher Whitehead

Starting on the path of counseling or therapy can be a bit intimidating. However, it doesn’t have to be. Working in a friendly and caring environment with a kind, understanding counselor can make the process easier, more comfortable, and even fun. Sometimes we may feel as though we are malfunctioning or broken; but I don’t believe anyone is actually broken. They are just doing something, or behaving in a way, that they would like to change. The trick is to find a new way—an enjoyable way—that rejuvenates, reinvigorates, and brings zest to life. Finding that new way may feel a little strange or difficult at first, but that’s part of the fun: trying on new patterns of thinking and behaving to see what fits and what we like best. Working in a safe and relaxed environment can help in this process because it helps us feel comfortable and assured. When counseling and therapy are done purposefully and cooperatively, learning, developing, and incorporating new strategies and patterns can be a pleasant and enjoyable journey. I hold a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University, which has equipped me to support clients through this process with empathy and expertise. To learn more about this process, please reach out or schedule an appointment on my website. I’m happy to help.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I like to help others with the challenges of daily living. I help people discover and change their behavior patterns. People aren't broken, they are doing, perfectly, something they would like to change. I like helping people grow and change and become the person they want to be. I have degrees in psychology and mental health counseling. I have been helping people find relief from fear, pain, and discomfort for more than 20 years. My approach is to help people identify the patterns or issues they would like to change and work with them to develop new ways of being in the world. Folks take away from sessions a new sense of hope, understanding, and empowerment. A sense of how things can be different and what to do to change them. My clients describe me as being able to simplify complex and difficult issues and help develop a sense of clarity and hope.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My typical process is to learn about what is troubling my clients and then to work collaboratively with them to find new solutions and new patterns, new behaviors, so that they can better live the life they want. I use many therapeutic modalities and will work to find the one that best fits you. We will work together to discover underlying causes and to develop new ways of being in the world.
