Getting to know Christy Goelz

Taking the step to receive help is a daunting process. The client and I work together to create a treatment plan that not only they are comfortable with but also challenges them to tackle what is causing them discomfort. I received my master's degree in counseling psychology from Tarleton State University in Texas. I work with clients experiencing general anxiety, political anxiety, environmental anxiety, depression, anger, substance use issues, life stressors, and other concerns.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe therapy is a collaboration and involve clients as much as possible. Clients are involved in creating a plan for their treatment, and encouraged to voice what is and is not working for them so we can adjust that plan when needed. I use empathy and humor to establish a relationship that helps clients feel comfortable. However, when needed I will nudge clients to step outside their comfort zone and challenge themselves.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I belive therapy is a collaborative process, and I work with the client to make sure they feel involved. The first session involves finding out why they came to therapy, getting background information, education on therapy in general and cognitive-behavioral therapy specifically, establishing a plan to help guide them and set expectations for both of us. The following sessions focus on identify thinking patterns that lead to discomfort and changing them.
