Getting to know Cinder Savage

Hi, I am Cinder Savage, LCSW, CADC, with a Master's in Social Work from the University of New England. I employ a strengths-based model and believe that each person's story is uniquely their own and deserves honor and acknowledgement as to how they want to share it. My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, aging, ADHD, addiction, grief, self-esteem, and life transitions. My approach Therapists call skills their "toolbox." In my toolbox, I have CBT, DBT, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and EMDR. As a drug and alcohol counselor, I also use relapse prevention techniques, including some ACT and DBT skills. I am always learning and will add to my toolbox as I go! My communication style I understand that living a life contains happiness and pain, joy and sadness, anger and apathy, and all emotions in between. I am non-judgmental, down to earth, and humorous. I will meet you right where you are-right now, right here. I am kind but plainspoken and may offer suggestions, but I understand you will use what is useful to you and leave the rest. My journey to mental healthcare I am number 10 of 11 children and learned very early how people's feelings and thoughts determine their actions, both good and bad. I knew I cared about people's pain and their joy. I raised my children and worked as an administrator but knew I wanted to work one-on-one, build relationships, and help people reach their goals. I sincerely believe my strength does not lie in educating the masses but in strengthening each person I meet, who in turn strengthens their families, then communities, towns, counties, and states. I know that's a bit lofty, but all I need to focus on is the one single, very important human being who sits in front of me, willing to share their story and work on themselves.
