Claire Becker-Horneker is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri who has been practicing since 2019. She graduated from Emporia State University with two master's degrees-one in Clinical Counseling and the other in Art Therapy. Claire is a licensed art therapist as well as a licensed clinical counselor. Having both modalities for therapy has helped many clients learn different types of adaptive coping skills and express themselves through metaphor, images, and verbal processing. Incorporating art into the therapeutic process can help clients regulate their bodies, provide bilateral stimulation in the brain, and create space for many different uncomfortable emotions. Claire is a trauma-informed therapist who uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as tools to help clients process and move through life's challenges so they can live a values-based, meaningful life. Outside of work, Claire enjoys going on long walks with her partner, reading ridiculous books of all varieties, and spending time with her family. She loves hiking and visiting beautiful places in nature and has recently started to learn about foraging. As an art therapist, she does her best to keep her creative process alive, though the project changes day by day. Some days it's cross-stitching while watching a goofy show; other days she might make a gift for someone out of clay. Then there are times she likes to listen to music while doing wood burning. For Claire, the creative process is more important than sticking to one type of art medium, so she usually has many different projects going that involve a variety of art forms.
