Getting to know Clare Johnson

The name of my practice is Rooted and Rising because my observation is that being deeply rooted in who we are is the foundation that allows us to grow. I support survivors of religious trauma. You grew up in church, and you dedicated your life to God, but as you get older, your questions become more and more complicated. Maybe you are deconstructing your faith and struggling with how to understand yourself as your once solid worldview shifts. Maybe you have experienced religious trauma and you can't just ?forgive? and ?lay it at the cross? like everyone wants you to. Maybe you are part of a clergy family and you are crumbling under the intense pressure of living in a fishbowl. One of the most damaging parts of religious trauma is the isolation that survivors feel. Unfortunately, with over 350,000 churches in the United States, you are far from alone in your experience, even if it feels that way. The most faithful are often the most vulnerable. ?Forgiveness? is often weaponized by faith communities, which serves to further silence and retraumatize you. Clergy families are not immune from religious trauma and are often targets of abuse by unhealed members of the community. None of this is your fault. I am an ordained minister married to a minister, and I hold a Master's in Counseling from Wake Forest University School of Divinity. I am passionate about accompanying my clients as they heal and find their way back to joy. Call or text me to schedule a free 20-minute consultation to see if we are a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you!
