Psychotherapist
CA
As a first generation child coming from a low income family, I was exposed to the needs of people and my community very early on. Growing up I knew I had to be an agent of change and healing. Not only in my community but also within my own family and self. Despite the adversity I experienced I was blessed to obtain a Bachelors in Psychology and another in Child and Adolescent Development. During my undergraduate years I was a mentor for young adults transitioning from community college to university life, participated with non profit groups to provide resources for the community, was part of two research labs, and was a teaching assistant. After undergrad I was a teacher for several years but felt limited in my ability to help the children and people I was working with. So I went back to school and obtained a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology, with an emphasis on trauma and attachment. My practicum work provided me the opportunity to work with children in schools as a counselor, and adults in individual therapy. I also assisted with the development and facilitation of an 8 week mindfulness based support group. After practicum I worked nearly 3 years for a non-profit organization focusing on CSA and trauma survivors/victims. My main work today is with trauma and attachment. I am also a certified positive parenting coach. I am passionate about helping individuals with a trauma history find peace so they can move from surviving to thriving in their lives. My trauma work focuses on helping individuals reconnect with their mind and body in safe ways, building coping skills, discussing what happened, and finally moving forward with peace and self empowerment. My parenting work focuses on improving communication in families, developing positive parenting strategies, and improving relationships between spouses and their children. My hobbies include gaming, reading, gardening, and movie watching. I am happily married with two children.
