Getting to know Clayton Wilson

I welcome adults of all ages and experiences to my practice, most often working with individuals who are struggling with feelings of depression, anxiety, loneliness, or hopelessness. I have particular experience supporting those who have difficulty forming or sustaining friendships and romantic relationships, those who feel inadequate, and those navigating major life changes such as breakups, conflicts with family or friends, changes in professional life, the birth of a child, and more. I hold a Master's in Clinical Social Work from the University of Chicago: Hyde Park and completed a Clinical Fellowship at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute, which enriches my approach to therapy and deepens my understanding of my clients' experiences.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I attempt to offer a supportive environment where we can talk about the things that are most important to you. Together, we will work to better understand your feelings, and we will explore where those feelings come from. I find that when we understand our feelings, their histories, and their functions, it becomes easier to form new perspectives. These new perspectives empower us to progress in the ways we’d like.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe that finding a good match is essential and I typically recommend a 3-4 session consultative period to start.
