Clifford’s personal philosophy is eclectic in nature. He incorporates different theoretical approaches in helping clients depending on their age and presenting issues. One of the theories he uses is Solution-Focused Therapy, a cognitive approach that addresses how we think. Clifford believes we can spend too much time and energy focusing on the problem itself rather than on finding solutions. Another approach he might use is Person-Centered Therapy, which emphasizes providing empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence. Clifford believes clients can develop the ability to find the solutions they need to their own problems and ultimately self-actualize.
The DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), published by the American Psychiatric Association, is used as the most current standard for evaluation and diagnosis for each client. This diagnosis guides the development of goals appropriate to the client’s therapy. Clifford’s policy is to obtain complete background information to assist in the diagnostic process and provide an accurate diagnosis. As the client, you will be informed of your diagnosis, and it will be documented in your record.
In his spare time, Clifford enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking in the mountains, water rafting, and observing nature in the park.
