Clorissa Young, LCPC

Psychotherapist
IL
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) with over a decade of experience working with adolescents, young adults, and families. I practice under Cloie McPhail, and my practice focuses primarily on supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals as they navigate identity development, relationships, and the impact of social, cultural, and medical systems that may not always feel fully supportive. I provide individual, couple, family, and group therapy with a focus on gender identity and sexual orientation exploration, transition-related concerns, relationship and sexual issues, and family or social stressors. When helpful, I collaborate with medical providers to ensure care is coordinated, affirming, and supportive of the whole person. In addition to LGBTQIA+-specific concerns, I have extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, self-harm, grief, ADHD, crisis situations, and relationship challenges. My therapeutic approach integrates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), allowing me to provide both insight-oriented work and practical, skills-based support. My goal is to create a space that is thoughtful, affirming, and grounded in both clinical expertise and real-world applicability, helping clients feel supported as they work toward meaningful and lasting change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re already feeling stuck, unsure, or disconnected. My goal is to make the process feel as comfortable and supportive as possible from the very beginning. I work primarily with teens, young adults, and adults, particularly those within the LGBTQIA+ community, who are navigating identity, relationships, and life transitions. Many of my clients come in feeling overwhelmed or unsure of how to move forward, and we work together to make sense of what’s going on and find a path that feels more grounded and manageable. My style is warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach—therapy is something we build together based on your needs, goals, and comfort level.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Some sessions may focus on processing experiences and emotions, while others may be more practical and skills-based, drawing from CBT and DBT strategies to help you manage stress, regulate emotions, and improve relationships. In our first session, we’ll talk about what brought you in, what you’re hoping to get out of therapy, and what support looks like for you. From there, we’ll create a plan that feels realistic and supportive, moving at a pace that works for you. Therapy is a space where you don’t have to have everything figured out. It’s a place to explore, build insight, and develop tools to help you move through life with more clarity and confidence.
