Getting to know Cody Fliehman

I was formerly a high school teacher for seven years before I made the switch to becoming a mental health counselor. I went to Reformed Theological Seminary where I was trained with a trauma-informed approach to therapy from a Christian perspective. Specific theories that I have found myself drawn to study further are Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Finally, I would say that the client populations I believe that I am a good fit for are clients processing trauma, anxiety, and relational concerns.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Everyone I work with is unique, so I don't have a single approach that I go to every time that I meet someone new. However, I would describe my general approach to therapy as focusing on providing support and education during the early stages while I am getting to know someone. Over time, as they feel more prepared, we will transition into the work of processing deeper and more vulnerable concerns as needed.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Someone can expect for the first session with me to primarily be about getting to know each other and what is bringing them in for counseling as we set goals together.
