Dr. Colette Wilcoxen, PsyD

Psychotherapist
5743 East Thomas Road, Suite 106, Scottsdale, AZ
I specialize in working with adolescents and children using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and play therapy to help them better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. For kids and teens, therapy shouldn’t feel like another place where they’re being told what to do. My goal is to create a space that feels safe, relaxed, and truly theirs — a space where they can talk freely without feeling pressured, judged, or rushed. My hope is that my clients feel secured and supported when working with me.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have been working in the field of psychology for about eight years total. I completed my doctorate at Midwestern University in Glendale Arizona. I have worked with multiple populations, however, my favorite is with adolescents and emerging adults. I have experience working with LGBT+ issues, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and more.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Parents often describe me as someone who is naturally comfortable with children and youth. I’m warm, engaging, and attentive — willing to meet kids at their level, whether that’s through conversation, creativity, or play. I believe young people deserve to feel heard and validated. I balance being nurturing and fun with providing steady, consistent boundaries
