Psychotherapist
AZ
Thanks for stopping by. My specialties are working with people who have experienced trauma, particularly childhood physical and sexual assault, abuse in relationships, and religious trauma. I work with a lot of LGBT people and those who are questioning their sexuality or gender orientation, as well as people across the lifespan working through various transitions and everyday stressors. My approach My approach is to build trust in the therapeutic relationship where we can start understanding some of the things that have led you to where you are, what tendencies are helpful or harmful, and how to start making changes at a pace that's realistic and lasting. My focus In the first session, I'll get an assessment of what brings you to therapy and the issues you're facing, and then we can see what is helping or hindering your progress towards goals that I imagine you've been trying to complete for a while, before you came to therapy. Typically, the second session is us making treatment plan goals, which will guide what we do for the remainder of our time together. My communication style I do pretty informal communication because I like people to feel relaxed around me. I know that therapy can be an intimidating experience, but I also make sure I'm modeling the types of assertive and clear, direct instructions that I want you to learn how to give other people. My journey to mental healthcare I originally was looking at being a teacher, I do love teaching, but I felt that doing social work and then eventually therapy in private practice, I was more able to talk to people about real problems they were having without having to focus on other objectives like grading and grant outcomes. Therapy is really about the goals that you have and what's the direct way you can get there. I like that I can get to know a person at their own pace, and we can decide what we're going to work on. I really enjoy advocacy work and have taught graduate students; those are my passions.
