“Connie is an effective and compassionate therapist. I've struggled with finding a therapist who takes my insurance and can see me on my schedule but she went above and beyond in order to make sure everything was in order before our first appointment. She has an amazing bedside manner. During our sessions, I feel like she is fully invested in me. Even though I was apprehensive about starting therapy, it's slowly becoming the part of the week I look forward to the most. ”

Getting to know Connie Hernandez

I am dedicated and passionate about psychological therapy and the powerful changes it can bring to people’s lives. It is a major piece of the puzzle when it comes to healing. My focus is with sexual abuse survivors, as well as those breaking generational trauma in forms of domestic violence and unhealthy cultural norms. I work with my clients as a team to gain self-awareness and work through the healing process. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I feel my schooling is unique in the aspect that my training and education really focus on assessing an individual as a whole as well as their environment. I feel this is important in order to aid in reaching the treatment goals set. I have been in the mental health field since 2005. I worked in a residential facility with young women who struggled with bipolar, borderline, eating issues, adoptions, issues, and addiction. I have also had the pleasure of working with a women's shelter for years, supporting women, men, and children in vulnerable times. This included children who experienced extensive sexual abuse. I trained with The Daring Way™for a year and worked with an addiction high school and another area Women's home utilizing the curriculum Berne Brown developed. Additional experience was gained while working as a therapist in a Psychiatric hospital working on the adult and children's units, most of my experience here was with individuals with psychosis, Schizophrenia, bipolar with manic episodes, and major depressive disorder.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I do not just ask questions about your emotions but about your living environment and medical health. I ask about your family, all environments, and heritage as well. We work as a team toward your healing and I cover a lot psychoeducation. We will build coping skills that work for you and this paired with your new knowledge and insight will play a large part in your future success.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I work with teens, couples, and adults. Most are of an ethnic descent. We typically meet for a consult to ensure we are a good fit. From there I will send over your intake paperwork and an extensive assessment. These will be needed prior to our first session. Our first session we will go over Policy and Procedure as well as start the intake assessment. We work as a team through the entire process and I am truly here if you need help with any of these steps. Progress for my clients shows up in many ways. We chart assessments to see the progress in symptoms, I also point out observations in their lives, thought processes, behaviors, etc. Most times my clients are stunned by the realization of the progress and so thankful.
