Courtney Utz, LPC

Psychotherapist
PA
Since 2009, I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania, overseeing child and family therapy, early childhood, and perinatal behavioral health. Both parents and children enjoy my assistance for a healthier relationship. Areas of expertise also include Adult ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Childhood behavioral health, and PTSD or trauma. In our meetings, I start by understanding your situation through guiding questions such as "What brings you here?", from which we explore potential diagnoses and treatment focuses. My patient-centered approach brings a gentle challenge when needed and draws on various modalities to address client concerns. I blend skill-based therapy with a "deeper dive" into possible contributors to clients' difficulties. To help break the cycle of blame and shame, I provide a good deal of psycho-education, to better understand ourselves. My counseling philosophy is deeply rooted in attachment theory, viewing human behavior as an interplay between our inherent need for connection and our drive to avoid pain. Our coping mechanisms, whether beneficial or unproductive, are profoundly influenced by our core beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world. Moreover, these patterns are shaped by our past experiences, current circumstances, and the larger societal systems we live in. I firmly believe in human potential for meaningful change, made possible through deeper self-awareness and the right tools and support. As your counselor, I aim to journey with you as you discover these insights, challenge self-imposed constraints, and develop healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.
