“Curtis has helped me change behaviors that were no longer serving me. I learned to respond to difficult situations differently. I am more in touch with who I am and my relationships, especially with my loved ones, have deepened. Curtis will never tell you what to do. He is a storyteller. It takes a lot of courage to tell your story as it is. As you’ve written it so far. It takes even more courage to change its trajectory. Especially when no one notices it but you. I still feel his influence guiding me along. Like safe passage through murky waters. And I am very grateful. ”

Getting to know Curtis Tindall

I was born in Fairbanks, Alaska. I am a husband, dad, and grandfather. I have coached several different sports and, six years ago, started playing golf. I enjoy constant and continued growth in the field of psychotherapy. I am currently working on a National Cognitive Behavior Therapy Certification with the Beck Institute, and every Friday I attend a two-hour psychotherapist workshop. Greetings! I look forward to working with you. Currently doing telehealth. My journey in the human helping field started in 1989, working as a counselor at an adolescent residential recovery program for nine years. I then worked six years with the school district before returning to the counseling field. I treat a variety of mental health conditions and issues, including anxiety, depression, mood or emotional problems, anger, stress, life transitions, blended family problems, and alcohol and other drug addictions. I have specialized in the field of addiction for over twenty-five years, addressing the underlying issues of trauma, stress, depression, anxiety, and feelings of being overwhelmed. My life experiences have been my best teacher and motivated me, at a later age, to return to school to earn a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. As a therapist, I strive to be like the Red Willow and to grow in flexibility and wisdom.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style and therapy approach are mixed. I provide a space that feels safe and where you can be completely vulnerable and not feel judged. Trust me, who am I to judge? I will share my own struggles and the progress I have made over the years. I have grown as a person, husband, father, friend, and therapist, and I strive to continue to self-actualize.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You might wonder what a typical session might look like. I like to utilize three methods: I like unstructured, in which we work on awareness through exploring and describing your needs or what gets in the way of your needs. If you are looking for more structure and homework—action plans, then I utilize mindfulness Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and I also like to combine both. Please let me know your preference.
