Getting to know Cynthia Agbayani

I am Dr. Cynthia Agbayani, a licensed professional counselor, Air Force veteran, and PhD graduate from Capella University in Counseling Studies. My doctoral studies focused on attachment and trauma. I have over 25 years of experience working with at-risk youth, families, couples, and individuals addressing a variety of issues. I specialize in attachment, trauma, anxiety, and family concerns. I work with clients ranging in age from toddlers to older adults in diverse settings, including home-based, outpatient, residential, and telehealth. My approach I employ an eclectic approach tailored to my clients' needs, utilizing many different modalities. I am trained in several evidence-based practices to treat anxiety, depression, trauma, and suicide prevention. I believe in doing whatever it takes to help my clients move toward mental health and wellness. My focus Although my specialty is at-risk youth and families, I enjoy working with all client populations. My experience includes combat veterans, LGBTQ clients, couples, adoptees and their families, foster care children and youth, clients in transition (life stage, separation/divorce/marriage, career changes, etc.), clients with substance abuse issues, and those experiencing spiritual crises. My communication style I employ a nurturing, positive stance using active listening. I believe I am an agent of change and seek to bring my excitement and enthusiasm forward to encourage clients to take those difficult steps toward change. I enter the therapeutic alliance with openness, clarity, and serenity, no matter the issue at hand. My journey to therapy I was drawn to professional counseling after speaking with a mentor who supported youth with substance use issues. Having retired from the Air Force, I wanted to find a way to work with troubled youth in our community. After several years of providing supportive counseling, I pursued my master's degree, then went on to earn my doctoral degree and licensure.

Dr. Agbayani has been absolutely wonderful for me. She is kind and straightforward, listens and truly cares when we talk. I don’t know where I’d be without the help and expertise of Dr. Agbayani these past few months.
I have broken more ground in such a short time with Dr. Agbayani than I have in my other failed attempts at finding a counsellor or therapist. You can tell when someone does what they do with a passion for their work, and that explains her perfectly. I feel I can be completely honest with her, and that is a refreshing feeling. I just wish I started with her sooner!
