“Dr. Cifuentes is exactly what I was looking for in a therapist. I sought her services after a life event and found her to be warm, curious in a gentle way, and reassuring. She does an excellent job of redirecting when I'm uncertain and suggesting different points of view to aid in more robust & empathetic thinking. Highly appreciate her being on this journey with me!”

Getting to know Cynthia Cifuentes

As an empathic clinician, I like to meet clients where they are by tailoring treatment to their specific needs, maintaining cultural sensitivity, and providing a safe environment. My approach is integrative, drawing from various treatment modalities such as psychodynamic therapy, CBT, Gestalt, motivational interviewing, and others. I have worked with clients experiencing a range of concerns, including addiction, grief, adjustment disorder, panic disorder, anxiety, depression, trauma, codependency, marital issues, sibling rivalry, and more. I hold a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from the City University of New York, Brooklyn College, which has equipped me with a strong foundation to support my clients effectively.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Upon completion of the initial session and gathering relevant background information, we will work collaboratively to build your treatment goals. In subsequent sessions, I will utilize techniques that are best suited for your particular concerns and emphasize your strengths to encourage you in the process. I intend to serve as a guide and assist in your journey towards self-improvement. One of my goals is that our sessions will support you in feeling empowered.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In addition to traditional talk therapy, I specialize in Substance Use and Alcoholism, which is a sub-category of mental health counseling. I have worked with adolescents and adults, in individual, couples, and family therapy. My services can be provided in English or Spanish.

I have been seeing Cynthia for a few months now and I have really enjoyed her style of listening and interjecting at all the right times when there is a possible teaching moment, as well as her overall tender nature and curiosity. She is not at all judgemental and does a great job of taking notes and recalling what we have previously discussed. I would recommend her to anyone, especially first timers or those apprehensive about therapy due to her kind and tender nature.
Every visit I have with Cynthia is another breath of fresh air. She has helped me learn more about myself, and improve my life overall. With every visit I was one step closer to closure, understanding, and acceptance. She is a kind, caring, and compasionate person which made connecting with her that much easier.

I would recommend Cynthia as a therapist. She has been very helpful and I have seen how her technique and feedback has helped me day by day to feel better. She makes me feel comfortable during the sessions that I can express my feelings and She is there to listen and understands me.
Cynthia is a wonderful presence in my life. I am high energy, and her thought-provoking questions and assessments provide much needed perspectives to my issues and situations. She also gives me "homework" which I had never done before with past therapists which also not only helps me work on myself outside of our sessions but also has me looking forward to our sessions so we can discuss it all. She is great - I really feel that I am working on myself.
I've been meeting with Cynthia for a few months now and she's been so helpful in not only listening, but also providing a variety of tools to help me process and take action. I found it very easy to open up to her from the very beginning of our sessions. I can already tell a big difference in how I cope day-to-day and I'm very thankful I took the step to start meeting with her.
Cynthia is extremely knowledgeable, has allowed for flexibility, in my therapy journey. Cynthia has helped me identify the main concerns, explores root cause analysis, and uncovers trends and patterns which has allowed for more self awareness and develop emotional intelligence. Cynthia consistently provides me with tools and resources to allow for further exploration of my concerns. My conversations have flowed in a circle of trust, in which I have comfortably spoken about things I have either not shared before. I feel accepted and validated, while acknowledging that there are still areas I want to work on. Thank you Cynthia!
Cynthia is someone I trust and respect. Cynthia has helped me see things in my blindspot. I had a major breakthrough on behavior I have been repeating since childhood and why I no longer need to continue that pattern. Cynthia was able to help me see it play out in many of my relationships. It was both enlightening & liberating. She genuinely wants to help me grow and she has given me excellent things to practice and think about to make me stronger.
I loved my sessions with cynthia and I cant wait to continue the our sessions. She was very professional and made me feel very comfortable very quickly. I would definitely recommend using her services.
I enjoyed my session. I highly recommend Cynthia. She creates a safe space for you to feel comfortable and goes above & beyond for her patients. She has a warm personality that makes it easy to communicate I am in a much better place since I started sessions with her.
