Getting to know Dale Karl

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina with over 20 years of experience supporting adults through life’s emotional challenges. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of helping individuals work through depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, and eating concerns such as bulimia and binge eating. What should a new client know about working with you?

My style as a therapist is warm and supportive. I believe in meeting each person with respect, care, and compassion. I don’t see people as problems to be labeled or “fixed.” Instead, I believe everyone is doing the best they can with what they’ve been given. Life is hard, and we all develop ways of coping that once helped us, even if they no longer work as well today. In therapy, I work with you as a whole person, not as a diagnosis. I draw from different therapeutic approaches and adapt our work to fit you. There is no one right way to heal or grow. What matters most is understanding who you are, what you’ve been through, and what you need now. Our work is guided by your goals, your pace, and what feels most helpful for you. I see therapy as more than just reducing symptoms or changing behavior. While relief from anxiety, depression, or emotional pain is important, I also believe therapy can help you better understand yourself, reconnect with what feels true to you, and create a life that feels more meaningful and balanced. Growth often comes through reflection, insight, and learning to listen more closely to your inner experience. Your past matters, and I respect the role it plays in shaping who you are. At the same time, I focus on what is happening in your life right now. Together, we look at the patterns, thoughts, emotions, and relationships affecting you in the present and work with them in practical, compassionate ways. My goal is to help you develop greater clarity, self-understanding, and confidence as you move forward. Therapy is a space where you can slow down, feel heard, and explore what may be holding you back—without judgment. We work together toward healing, growth, and meaningful change, at a pace that feels safe and right for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We’ll begin by talking about what’s been weighing on you and what you hope might feel different in your life. I listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and help you sort through thoughts and feelings that may feel overwhelming or confusing. Together, we gently explore patterns and experiences that may be contributing to your struggles so you can gain a deeper understanding of where they come from. Insight is important, but I also believe therapy should be practical and helpful in everyday life. I offer tools and strategies you can use outside of sessions to manage anxiety, improve mood, strengthen relationships, and feel more in control of behaviors that feel stuck or out of balance. My goal is to help you make meaningful, realistic changes that support long-term growth and emotional well-being. I see therapy as a partnership. You are the expert on your own life, and I bring guidance, experience, and support. We work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, creating a space where healing, self-understanding, and personal growth can naturally unfold.
