Psychotherapist
60 Chestnut St, Englewood, NJ
I’m Dana Colthart, a licensed therapist and the owner of Clear Light Therapy in Englewood, NJ. I specialize in working with individuals struggling with OCD, anxiety, panic attacks, eating disorders, and intrusive thoughts. Many of the clients I work with have tried therapy before and felt like they were “just talking” without actually getting better. My approach is different. I use evidence-based treatments like Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which are designed to help you change how your brain responds to fear, uncertainty, and distress—not just understand it. Instead of focusing only on talking through problems, we work together to help you face what feels hard, reduce avoidance, and build real, lasting change. I know how overwhelming it can feel to live with constant anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or a mind that won’t shut off. You might feel stuck, frustrated, or unsure why this is happening. My goal is to create a space that feels supportive, but also structured and effective, where you feel understood and are actively working toward feeling better. At Clear Light Therapy, we take a personalized and collaborative approach. No two treatment plans look the same. We meet you where you are, move at a pace that feels manageable, and help you build the skills and confidence to handle anxiety without it running your life.

Getting to know Dana Colthart

Many of the clients I work with have tried therapy before and felt like they were “just talking” without actually getting better. My approach is different.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is both supportive and structured. I’m not the type of therapist who just listens and nods for 45 minutes, I’m actively engaged in helping you understand what’s keeping you stuck and what to do differently. I specialize in OCD, anxiety, panic, and eating disorders, and I use evidence-based approaches like ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). That means our work will go beyond talking about your fears, we’ll gradually help you face them, reduce avoidance, and build the skills to handle discomfort without it taking over your life. You can expect me to be warm, direct, and collaborative. I will challenge you when it’s helpful, support you when things feel hard, and always move at a pace that feels manageable for you. Therapy with me is not about “fixing” you—it’s about helping you understand your patterns, shift your relationship with your thoughts, and start living more freely. If you’ve tried therapy before and felt like it didn’t really help, this may feel different. We focus on real, practical change, not just insight.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is structured, collaborative, and tailored to you. We start with an initial intake where I get a full understanding of what you’re experiencing, your symptoms, patterns, history, and what’s been keeping you stuck. I’m also assessing whether what you’re dealing with is anxiety, OCD, panic, or something else, because getting the right diagnosis helps guide the right treatment. From there, we build a personalized treatment plan based on evidence-based approaches like ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). In ongoing sessions, we’re not just talking—we’re actively working. That might look like identifying patterns like avoidance, rumination, or reassurance-seeking, and then gradually learning how to respond differently. For many clients, this includes exposure work, where we face fears in a structured, manageable way so your brain can learn that these situations or thoughts aren’t actually dangerous. Sessions are collaborative and practical. I’ll guide you, but you’ll also be an active participant in the process. We often set small, realistic goals between sessions so you can start applying what you’re learning in your daily life. Over time, the goal is for you to feel more confident handling anxiety, less controlled by your thoughts, and able to engage more fully in your life. If you want, I can make a slightly more “luxury client / high-end Bergen County” version or a shorter version for directories.
