Dana Restrepo, LCSW

Psychotherapist
IL
I’m a trauma-informed therapist who believes that healing happens best in relationships where people feel seen, respected, and not rushed. My work is shaped by both clinical training and lived experience. As a neurodivergent clinician, I understand how often people are misunderstood, pressured to perform, or asked to adapt to systems that don’t fit them. That lens informs how I practice—I pay close attention to pacing, nervous system responses, and the impact of chronic invalidation or relational harm. I provide LGBTQIA+ affirming care grounded in respect, curiosity, and ongoing learning. You won’t be asked to educate me or justify your identity. I approach therapy as a collaborative space where your identity is honored as a given, not treated as a problem to be fixed. I specialize in working with relational and attachment-based trauma, including experiences that may not always be named as “trauma” but still leave lasting imprints—emotional neglect, inconsistent caregiving, betrayal, boundary violations, or environments where it wasn’t safe to be fully yourself. I’m particularly drawn to working with clients who are insightful, self-aware, and tired of feeling like they should be “over it” by now. My style is client-led, thoughtful, and relational. I value warmth, humor, and honesty, while also knowing when to slow down and sit with what’s tender or complex. Sessions are not rushed or over-pathologized. Instead, I aim to offer a consistent, grounded space where we can make sense of patterns, process experiences, and build skills that support lasting change. At the heart of my work is a belief that therapy should feel human. You don’t need to perform, have the right words, or know exactly where to start. We’ll figure it out together, at a pace that respects your nervous system and your lived experience.
