Getting to know Daniel Fisher

I hold an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree from the University of Florida, specializing in Mental Health Counseling. During my time in the highly regarded University of Florida Counselor Education Program, I developed a strong interest in assisting clients through a person-centered and solution-focused approach. As part of my training, I interned at Phoenix House, a dual diagnosis residential substance abuse rehabilitation facility. This experience allowed me to work with clients dealing with substance abuse and mental health issues. To further expand my counseling expertise, I interned at the Career Resource Center (CRC) at the University of Florida. The CRC is known for its exceptional guidance and support to students, consistently ranked as the top career resource center in the nation. During my internship, I provided counseling and consulting services to students across various academic levels, addressing concerns such as career decisions, depression, anxiety, life transitions, and identity issues. Additionally, I facilitated workshops on resume building, interview skills, time management, confidence building, and leadership development. Following my education, I worked as a psychotherapist at an intensive outpatient substance abuse rehabilitation facility in Winter Park, Florida, and then, later, in my own individual private practice gaining valuable experience in individual and group psychotherapy. In 2023, I established Outlook Mental Health, LLC, where we to provide mental healthcare services to the Greater Orlando area. As part of this endeavor, I have brought on associate therapists who are under my direct supervision where they benefit from my experience, guidance, and supervision to aid in providing excellent mental healthcare available to our community as well as the State of Florida at large.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In our counseling sessions, the initial focus is on building a respectful and trusting relationship. As we meet for the first time, our main objective is to get to know each other better. It's important to note that all conversations held during these sessions are confidential and personalized to meet the unique needs of each individual. I use a unique approach to psychotherapy where I draw from Choice Theory, Existentialism, and Stoicism to inform my practice. It's an approach that allows for deepening of insight into your therapeutic challenges and needs moving forward while maintaining a connection to where you came from. I use a combination of direct communication, humor, and encouragement towards independence to get results. It is challenging but, if you're willing to do the work, it becomes a deeply satisfying and enjoyable process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My primary objective is to get fired. Yes, you read that right. The philosophy is drawn from the Choice Theory approach to psychotherapy where we acknowledge the empowerment derived out of fulfilling your needs, for independence, freedom, and self-determination. Incorporating this understanding in your work allows for the eventual conclusion of the therapeutic relationship because you've gotten to the point where you don't need it anymore. I get fired and I love it. The time frame is dependent on you and the work that you do in therapy.
