Getting to know Daniel Smigiel

You might be feeling anxious, unsure of your direction, or disconnected from the people in your life. Maybe your mind feels like it never slows down—constantly overthinking, second-guessing, or trying to keep up. You may be navigating ADHD, anxiety, OCD, depression, or finding it hard to set boundaries with others. Carrying all of this on your own can feel exhausting. You don’t have to. I offer a warm, person-centered approach where you’re seen as more than a diagnosis. Together, we’ll slow things down, make sense of what’s going on, and build tools that actually fit your life—not generic strategies that don’t stick. As someone who also understands ADHD firsthand, I know how challenging it can be to manage focus, emotions, and balance. That perspective allows me to meet you where you are and tailor our work in a way that truly makes sense for you. My goal is to create a space where you feel understood, supported, and able to move forward at your own pace. Therapy isn’t just about getting through—it’s about feeling more grounded, more in control, and more like yourself again. If you’re ready to explore, grow, and feel more at ease in your life and relationships, I’d be glad to connect.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel like a big step. You might not be sure what to expect, or wonder if it will actually help. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin. When we start working together, my goal is to create a space where you can show up as you are—without pressure to explain things perfectly or have a clear starting point. Some people come in with a lot to say, while others aren’t sure where to begin. Both are completely okay, and we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you. I take a humanistic, person-centered approach, which means I don’t see you as a diagnosis to fix. I want to understand you—what you’ve been going through, what’s been weighing on you, and what feels stuck. At the same time, I’m not a passive therapist. I’ll ask questions, offer perspective, and help you connect patterns in a way that feels useful and meaningful. Many of the people I work with are used to being in “problem-solving mode,” yet still feel overwhelmed or stuck. Therapy can be a place to slow things down and begin working through things in a way that actually helps. Our work will focus on both insight and action. We’ll explore what’s going on beneath the surface, while also building practical tools to help you manage emotions, improve relationships, and feel more confident in your day-to-day life. If ADHD is part of your experience, I also bring both professional and personal understanding of how it can impact focus, emotions, and balance. We’ll build strategies that work with your brain—not against it. Above all, I want this to be a space where you feel understood, supported, and able to move forward at your own pace. You don’t have to navigate this alone—we’ll figure it out together. ****ONCE YOU BOOK AN APPOINTMENT, I WILL CONTACT YOU ABOUT ANY INFORMATION THAT IS NEEDED TO SEND YOU INTAKE PAPERWORK. MY PRACTICE WILL SEND THE INTAKE PAPERWORK TO YOUR EMAIL*****

What is your typical process for working with clients?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, and that’s intentional. Each person comes in with their own experiences, pace, and needs, so our work together is tailored to you. In the beginning, sessions are about getting to know you—what’s been going on, what feels most important, and what you’re hoping might feel different in your life. You don’t need to have everything organized or clearly explained. We’ll figure it out together. A typical session is a mix of space and structure. You’ll have room to talk through what’s on your mind—whether that’s something recent or something that’s been building over time. I’ll listen, ask questions, and reflect things back in a way that helps bring clarity and understanding. At the same time, I’m an active therapist. I’ll help you notice patterns, gently challenge thoughts that may be keeping you stuck, and offer perspectives you may not have considered. The goal isn’t just to talk—it’s to help things start to shift. We’ll also focus on practical tools you can use outside of session. That might include ways to manage anxiety, regulate emotions, communicate more effectively, or follow through on things that matter to you. Therapy should feel useful in your day-to-day life, not just during our time together. If ADHD is part of your experience, I also bring both professional and personal understanding to how it can affect focus, emotions, and consistency. We’ll work on building strategies that actually fit your brain, rather than trying to force yourself into systems that don’t. Some sessions may feel more reflective, while others are more solution-focused. We’ll adjust based on what you need that day. Above all, my goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, understood, and supported—while also helping you move forward in a meaningful way.

Dan gives a strong first impression as a therapist. He listens closely, understands quickly, and keeps the session focused and structured. His approach feels direct and practical he doesn’t just listen, he helps clarify patterns and guides the conversation toward useful insights. I felt comfortable opening up, and the session left me with clearer understanding and direction rather than just talking. Overall, Attentive, sharp, and effective.

Daniel is an amazing therapist. I can always count on him to give me eye-opening sessions through his expertise and therapeutic guidance. He is timely with his methods, and practices great therapeutic guidance for where you are, as well as carefully scaffolds the sessions to build you up . While discovering yourself it can be a challenge to find blind spots and false stories that inhibited you but Daniel is great at giving you the practical and sensitive building blocks to help you create the best version of yourself. It is great to have a gifted therapist. Highly recommend!
I have been a patient of Mr. Smigiel for several years and have always valued our work together. Mr. Smigiel is a great therapist who creates a safe space were I have always felt heard. He is genuine in his approach and provides insight that I have found beneficial to my growth as a person. He is flexible and accommodating to my schedule which is a huge help. His consistency and compassion along with his utilization of clinical techniques has helped keep me engaged in our work together. For anyone looking for a therapist I would recommend Mr. Smigiel.
Daniel is amazing!! I've been working with him for a couple years now, and I dont regret it at all. After a really bad experience with a previous therapist, Daniel made me feel so much more comfortable and enlightened to what therapy could be!!
Daniel Smigiel is an exceptional therapist. He truly listens, speaks with honesty, and creates a space where I feel understood and supported. Rather than simply giving answers, Daniel encourages thoughtful reflection—asking questions that challenge me to think, explore, and see things from new perspectives. He consistently guides me toward practical solutions while helping me better understand myself. Since being referred to Daniel, my life has changed in meaningful and lasting ways. I am deeply appreciative of his insight, compassion, and dedication, and I’m genuinely grateful for the positive impact he has had on my life.
It was great- like all my visits have been. Daniel has truly helped me work through issues I’ve been struggling with on my own. He’s guided me in navigating situations that I might have handled poorly in the past. I can genuinely see the improvement in my life. My relationships with my girlfriend and friends are stronger, I feel less anxious, and he consistently helps me arrive at insights that would’ve been much harder to reach by myself. I’m very grateful for the support and growth I’ve experienced.
Daniel is probably the quietest therapist I've ever worked with — and somehow the most formative. He doesn't fill space with prompts or redirect you toward his framework. He listens. Actually listens. And when he does speak, it lands. What stands out is the patience. No rushing toward insight, no performing therapeutic technique. Just steady, compassionate presence that lets you get where you need to go. I've had louder therapists, more interventionist ones — Daniel's approach is different. He trusts the process and trusts you to do the work. If you're looking for someone who won't talk over you or push an agenda, and you're ready to do real work with someone who meets you where you are — this is your person.
In just a few short months this provider has changed my life. I was in a very bad place mentally when we started and Daniel brought my laughter back. Highly recommend scheduling your first session. You WONT be disappointed.
I have only had one session so far, but the experience was a great. Daniel is a great listener and speaks in a clear and consistent manner. I’m very much looking forward to my future sessions.
