“Danielle is extremely compassionate and creates a really safe space in sessions. I feel very lucky to have found such a supportive therapist who (gently) pushes me when I need it but also checks in to make sure I haven’t reached a limit. She’s very empathetic and creative, finding new ways to meet me where I am on any given week. I’m very grateful to her for how much she’s helped me. ”

Getting to know Danielle Berg

Being human is hard. In addition to daily challenges, many of us weren't shown how to feel and express our emotions or how to communicate effectively with others. We may not have learned what healthy love looks and feels like, or how to care for and accept ourselves-because often, our caregivers hadn't learned how to either. As a result, we often find ourselves experiencing painful emotions such as shame, anger, longing, worry, or hopelessness. Therapy is an opportunity to explore our experiences with curiosity and kindness, allowing us to gain insight into, make meaning of, and heal from the burdens we carry. I bring to this work a deep commitment shaped by my education: a Bachelor's degree from Hofstra University, a Master's in Creative Writing and Literature from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from the City University of New York, Queens College. These experiences enrich my approach, blending empathy, creativity, and clinical expertise to support healing and growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a therapist, my goal is to create a compassionate and validating atmosphere in which the client feels safe to explore themselves and share their findings. I incorporate several treatment modalities, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), existential psychotherapy, exposure and response prevention (ERP), and mindfulness. My work is also informed by attachment theory, nonviolent communication, and my background in creative writing and literature. I view my clients from an intersectional lens, understanding that we contain unique histories and experiences. This is why I believe treatment is as unique as the individual. My job is to listen and ask questions as you explore what you feel and what you need, and together we will address whatever barriers stand in the way. I received my MS in Mental Health Counseling from Queens College in 2020, an MFA in Creative Writing and Literature from Stony Brook Southampton (2015), and a BA in Psychology from Hofstra University (2005). I have also received training in Nonviolent Communication from the New York Center for Nonviolent Communication. I look forward to connecting.
