Danielle Smith, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
Hi, I’m Danielle, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist. I work with teens (13+), young adults, and adults who are navigating anxiety, trauma, and intense emotions, including symptoms related to BPD. I believe that reaching out for support is one of the most powerful things you can do, and I don’t take that lightly. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and genuinely supported as you work through whatever is getting in the way of your life feeling more manageable and meaningful. My approach is trauma-informed, person-centered, and collaborative. I integrate evidence-based treatments such as DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Seeking Safety, and Trauma-Focused CBT to help you not only understand what you’re going through, but also build the tools to navigate it more effectively. I often work with clients who feel overwhelmed by their emotions, stuck in patterns they don’t fully understand, or impacted by past experiences that continue to show up in the present. Together, we focus on building insight, strengthening coping skills, and helping you move toward a life that feels more stable, intentional, and aligned with who you want to be. My style is warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental. This is a space where you can show up exactly as you are, and where growth is approached with both compassion and honesty. If you’re ready to start therapy, or even just considering it, I’d be honored to be part of your process.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is a supportive, steady, and collaborative process. You don’t need to have the “right words” or a clear plan when you start. We’ll take things at a pace that feels manageable for you. I approach therapy through a trauma-informed lens, which means we focus on building safety, trust, and understanding before pushing for change. Together, we’ll explore how your past and present experiences may be shaping your emotions, relationships, and patterns, while also developing practical tools to help you feel more grounded and in control. I integrate approaches like DBT, CBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, and Seeking Safety, so sessions often include a mix of processing what you’re going through and learning skills to help you navigate difficult moments outside of therapy. You can expect me to be warm, patient, and nonjudgmental, while also helping you gently build insight and new ways of responding to challenges. For teens and young adults, I also focus on creating a space that feels approachable and real, where you don’t feel talked at or misunderstood. Above all, I want you to feel safe showing up as you are. Therapy doesn’t have to feel overwhelming or rushed. We’ll work together in a way that feels supportive, intentional, and sustainable.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work together starts with getting to know you at a pace that feels comfortable. In the first few sessions, we’ll focus on what’s bringing you in, your current challenges, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. There’s no pressure to share everything right away. As we move forward, we’ll begin to identify patterns, build insight, and set goals that feel realistic for you. Sessions typically include a mix of talking through what you’re experiencing and learning practical tools to help you feel more grounded and in control. I use a trauma-informed approach and draw from DBT, CBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, and Seeking Safety. Depending on your needs, we may focus on emotion regulation, coping skills, processing difficult experiences, or improving relationships. For teens, I create a space that feels approachable and supportive, where they can better understand their emotions and build skills they can use in their daily lives.
