Psychotherapist
RI
I believe that my approach to therapy sets me apart from other therapists. I strive to create a casual and friendly atmosphere where clients feel safe and comfortable, and where we can even have some laughs along the way. While therapy can certainly involve difficult and emotional work, it is also important to be able to transition back into the present and find moments of joy and levity. Importantly, I have personally struggled with and worked through many issues, so I understand firsthand what it is like to be in a dark place and how to find your way out. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Walla Walla University and have nearly 20 years of experience working with a variety of issues. I specialize in working with people who have experienced trauma and abuse. My training allows me to help you understand what your body is trying to tell you, and how your nervous system has changed to keep you safe. In treatment, we work on ways for you to have your feelings and still be yourself. You’ll learn to develop boundaries with others, trust yourself and others, and find new ways to manage overwhelm. Feelings aren’t the enemy. When we learn to listen and understand what our body needs us to hear, we develop a better relationship with ourselves and find it easier to be well mentally, emotionally, and physically. It would be my honor to get to know you and help you along this leg of your journey. I look forward to hearing from you—just reach out for a free consultation to see if we are a good fit for therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Before our first session, I'll send you some forms to review and sign. The best part is, everything is done online so it's super easy! During our first meeting, I will ask you some questions to learn more about you. I want to know why you're interested in therapy, what you hope to achieve, what you enjoy doing, and who are the important people in your life. Don't be shy to ask me questions too! It's key that you feel comfortable and sure that we're a good match. We'll also talk about privacy. Keeping your information safe is very important to me. To understand your needs better, I might ask some questions to check your memory and other things. I've trained in many types of therapy, so I can create a plan that's just for you. I use strategies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I help people who've experienced trauma and those who struggle with how they see their body or have problems with eating. If you've been hurt physically, sexually or emotionally, I can support you. I'm also a friend to the LGBTQ community and work with the kink community. You are safe here. In our work together, you'll learn to see your feelings and thoughts in a new way and find better ways to handle them. This will help you focus on what's really important to you like your loved ones and hobbies!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We'll have all our sessions online through a video call. This video call uses a safe server that follows strict privacy rules called HIPAA, so your information is kept private. We can book your appointments one by one, but it's usually easier to set up a regular appointment so you don't forget. Usually, we'd meet once a week. Once you start to feel better, we can talk about what's best for you. Maybe you'll take a break, meet less often, or feel ready to end therapy. But remember, you can always come back if you need more help. Insurance companies need a diagnosis. We'll see if your situation fits a diagnosis. But, I want to take some time to be sure, so this could change. It's good to have a plan, so we know where we're heading. Our goal from day one is to get you ready for your last day of therapy! We can update or change your plan as needed, but we'll always check on it every 90 days or so. I like to teach a lot, because knowing more gives you power. I want you to understand yourself better. I also use lots of comparisons to explain complex ideas. I think you'll enjoy this and you might even start creating your own comparisons! Therapy can be hard and sometimes hurt, but my goal is for you to leave each session feeling okay. I don't expect you to be super happy, but I want you to be safe and well as you work on yourself outside of our sessions. It's important to note, I can't provide emergency services. If you might need this, we'll make a plan together that works for you.

It’s common for mental health providers to be out-of-network. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage, so you may get partially reimbursed. Learn more

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Initial session: $200 for 53 minutes
Ongoing session: $150 for 53 minutes
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

I accept a small number on insurances in Montana only. For those, my billing department will submit your claims for you, and when an EOB (explanation of benefits) is available, you'll be charged for whatever copay, deductible or other out of pocket costs that are your responsibility. If you have other insurance and want to use it, I can help you with that by providing what is called a Superbill. You will pay for your session at the time of service, and at the end of each month, I would provide you with a Superbill that you can use to submit to your insurance to see if they will provide you with reimbursement or apply the amount to a deductible, for example. You'll have to check with your insurance company to find out more. Also, there is a service that charges a small fee to help you submit your Superbills each month. If you are interested, I would be happy to share more about that.
