What should a new client know about working with you?

Finding the right therapist that you can connect with and one that fosters trust in the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects of therapy. My commitment to helping you achieve your best psychological life is my primary goal. That may involve helping you to identify specific goals and strategies that will help you improve your communication skills and empower you in your relationships. It may also help you in learning and acquiring knowledge that will result in a changed perspective and/or behavior. Whether your challenges involve depression, anxiety, addictions or intimate partner conflict, I would welcome the opportunity to accompany you on this part of your journey, helping you to make sense out of situations and circumstances that seemingly make no sense. I know that taking that first step of seeking therapy is sometimes a difficult step to take, but I personally invite you to follow through on your decision. In fact, let's take the first step of that journey together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The process of initiating the therapeutic relationship is often much easier and smoother than one my anticipate. Essentially it involves a brief initial introduction on the part of the therapist and client. Followed by a brief assessment to identify the presenting issues and symptoms. Secondly, a treatment plan identifying the treatment goals and objectives as crafted collaboratively between the therapist and client is developed. Typically, cognitive behavior therapy is the primary intervention utilized in individual treatment session, and emotion focus therapy being the primary intervention for couples therapy. Homework is regularly assigned to clients to enhance the learning and promote change occurring much more efficiently.
