Darwin has been a student of rhythm for her entire life and has been playing African and African Caribbean drums since she was a teenager. Her study of rhythm and percussion is a central part of her self-care history and her wellness journey. Her study of the intellectual/political and cultural histories of people in the West African Diaspora has profoundly informed her cultural responsiveness as a counselor. She is a student of the world systems school of historical sociology which also informs her current work as so much of the uncertainty that we all face is rooted in world history and global social systems. She is influenced by the Psychodynamic and Rogerian schools of therapeutic practice especially practicing trauma informed unconditional regard for others and herself. She practices strength centered counseling and can offer methods for self care which promote wellness. She enjoys working with young adults, adults and elders. Her clients are diverse by race, ethnicity, age, gender identity, religion and sexual orientation. The most important element in her work as a counselor is the therapeutic relationship and creating a safe, positive, supportive and peaceful space for people to explore their lives.
