David Jal, BS

Psychotherapist
NE
Dear all, I go by DJ as a short form for David Jal, and I am a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner. My approach: As a compassionate and experienced clinical psychotherapist, I specialize in helping individuals navigate complex emotions related to anxiety, depression, trauma, and serious mental illness (SMI). With culturally sensitive and multicultural approaches, I utilize evidence-based techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness practices to empower individuals to develop coping mechanisms and build resilience. My passion lies in creating a safe and supportive space where clients can explore challenges, gain self-awareness, and cultivate meaningful personal growth. My focus: I specialize in the SMI population with major depressive disorder (MDD), bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, and anxiety, primarily working with adults facing legal troubles or life challenges. I am comfortable working with members of the LGBTQ community, teenagers, and children of all genders. My communication style: An assertive communication style is preferable, but I recognize people have their own ways of communicating, and that is not an issue because the therapeutic alliance will prevail over any differences. My journey to mental healthcare: I was a refugee in four countries across two continents, exposed to diverse cultures and learning the importance of being an underdog and different from mainstream cultures. I realized the value of being a helper to bridge gaps and the importance of commonalities that bind us as human beings. Having been exposed to war, I understood the critical role of resiliency in coping skills, such as meeting physiological needs, security, safety, and confronting death. This experience sparked my journey to become a helper and discover my God-given talent to assist others. I earned my bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska Kearney. Thanks!
