Getting to know David Marshek
I’m particularly passionate about working with couples and those who struggle with relationships. Conflict, infidelity, withholding information, a sexless relationship— common problems that are often only symptoms of something more elusive. As your therapist, I can help identify underlying elements in yourselves and your dynamic together, helping you each understand the other better.
People who find me are often dealing with low self-esteem, feelings of isolation, meaninglessness, or facing difficult decisions. It may feel like you're missing parts of life's manual. As we age, these shifts in perspective can be unsettling or disheartening, leaving us feeling depressed, anxious, or apathetic.
My demeanor is calm and to the point. I provide an environment where you will be heard and seen, and where you will feel secure to say anything that might cross your mind. You will not be rushed. I incorporate aspects of Gestalt and Psychoanalytic theories with Depth Psychology. I focus on treating underlying causes, helping you make lasting changes.
Difficult conversations held in a therapeutic setting are often more fruitful than having imaginary conversations in your mind or repeating maladaptive patterns with your partner. I hold a BA in Literature and Writing from SUNY Purchase and an MA in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University. During my clinical traineeship at Counseling West in Sherman Oaks I worked with patients from diverse backgrounds and a broad range of concerns including anxiety, depression, existential dilemmas, sexuality and relationship issues.

What works for one person will have little impact on another. My approach begins with seeing the unique organization of your personality- how you understand yourself and the world around you. By understanding who you are, I can tailor the treatment to be the most useful to you.
